A few months back I had my mechanic install an elevate torque mount while he was doing another job on the car.

I was taking off my skidplate today alongside other things, to get the easy stuff out of the way before I replace both engine mounts tomorrow.

I figured I would look around underneath since I'm not always under here. Then I saw the metal pad on the elevate engine mount was kind of mangled.

The pocket the torque mount slips into seems to be completely fine and the torque mount seems to sit level.

I couldn't figure out how to attach photos how I've done on other forums, so I had to use lightshot links in order to share the images of what I say. Apologies for that.

Thanks,
Andrew

I have an Elevate Torque Mount that I used on my previous V50 that worked perfectly. That car got totaled and I pulled the mount to put on my replacement V50 and the vibration was unbearable. I tried other upgrade mounts with the same result. I had noticed that the mounts fit much tighter. I'm thinking that the PO used the center sub-frame as a jack point and bent it. So, I'm using a modified stock torque mount with good results.

The metal being mangled isn't an issue, that's just going to happen with forces from the mount. That metal plate was an afterthought to try and help keep the bushing in place and wasn't even included with the mounts for the first few years.

The problem is that your bushing is already stretching. If you were to pull your mount, you would likely find that the center hole has stretched some amount and the center rod will have wiggle room. With any free play, the mount is no longer performing optimally... And that is why the majority of people who have had the Elevate mount have trashed it.

I guess I'll be going back into the market for an upgraded torque mount :/

I know there are a lot of compatible parts for our cars from other brands. Will focus st and 07+ mazdaspeed3 torque mounts work?

If not what are my best options?

Thanks,
Andrew

Yep, lots of mounts to choose from for any of the C1 platform cars.

The stock Efocus mount is great and only like $45 from Ford.
The PowerFlex and Whiteline inserts for the factory Volvo mount are also really good, both about $35.
I also tried the stock Mazda mount with the WhiteLine insert and I was pleased.

Currently running the Damond solid race mount. The whole car shakes at idle, it would be terrible for a street car, but it's great on track.

+1 to e-focus mount, OEM or aftermarket. I was able to snag an aftermarket one on Amazon that was well-reviewed for something like $16, and it has been in great service for north of 30k miles now.
Tighter than stock, only a little softer than a poly filled stock mount, without much noise/vibration.

I would advise only going OEM with the efocus mount, especially for only $45.
The Chinese knockoff quality is hit or miss. I tried one and it only lasted 10k miles.

I have an IPD torque mount with the optional delrin stiffening rods. Slight vibration from idle to 1500. Overall great upgrade.

Thanks for this tidbit - I am ordering a Damond tomorrow. Anything to get rid of OEM rubber in exchange for longevity I am down 100% for. Which did you order, the RS or the ST one? They look identical, but I want to be sure I get the correct one. Also for the transmission mount I found Steeda has a solid/poly transmission mount that features the same screw-in design for the 14-18 ST, which might work. I think I might take a stab at that guy and see if he functions here and that gives us a ton more NVH but less mounts to replace when they go bad although it shows the old style mount with the square rubber patch (and matching transmission arm) but if all it is is just a flat mating surface that doesn't care about round or square transmission arm, might be a viable possibility for us.

Sorry, didn't mean to derail - just providing input.

Did some looking around and just ordered the jbr 88A chromoly torque mount thats for the 07+ mazdaspeed3. Cost me about $115 shipped

I'll probably make a separate post giving a review on it, but based off of the reviews I have already read it should be pretty stiff.

I'm disappointed but not surprised to hear about the quality of cheapo amazon e-focus mounts. I believe I bought a motorking last summer based on a forum post. I would get a very nasty clunk and pedal vibration the first time I hit 12mph out of park. That timing is attributed to the ABS self test. Because of the severity of the clunk I was steered towards motor mounts. I replaced the torque first which looked fine and didn't improve the issue. When I did the 2 big mounts they were thrashed and the clunk and vibration went away. But now I'm hearing a much more timid clunk if I have the radio or headphones off and I'm noticing a slight vibration in the pedals again. I wouldn't be surprised if the cheapo torque mount is failing already... It's oil change time in a few weeks so I'll swap it out then. I think I still have the old torque mount. /threadjack

Old thread….lol. Just swapped my Elevate lower torque mount out. (Sport/Performance Version)
Put roughly 10k on it.

its seen better days….
Not complaining as it did what it was claimed to do while before it took a long walk off a short pier.
Upgraded to a full race bushing in the Elevate billet bracket and then upgraded the torque arm bracket bush to PowerFlex poly.

new full race bush….

PowerFlex purple poly bush…
Things are nice and tight now. We'll see how this set-up holds up.

Just too add to the original suggestion - I have had the eFocus mount (OEM) for about 5 years now - even with the K16 & AWD swaps it has held up & works well. I don't race or track the car, but I do drive aggressively on occasion

Thanks Joe, if this doesn't work out I'll be on the hunt again…

I destroyed what appeared to be an actual e-Focus mount. Got an IPD mount that I feared would be too harsh. It's not.

I had the Elevate torque mount and it went bad pretty quick. Just installed the yellow Powerflex insert and I'm very happy so far.
