Hi All!

Overall this car is absolutely incredible. I bought it outright, and thus want to treat it right and get the most out if it. If some of these questions have been asked, ---inevitably they have--- I did a pretty extensive search for each one and whereas they are touched on, I would like to explore further. I would like to find solutions and / or advise as to whether issues are under warrantee, and / or are indeed of concern, or are perhaps N.O.N. problems (New Owner Neurosis:facepalm:)

1. Driver window makes a very loud and somewhat offensive sound when rolling up.

2. Slight shudder between 60-65 mph. Tire balance probably?

3. Brake rotors seem very worn for a car with 2k mi, somewhat pitted, probably from sitting on the lot for 2 yr.

4. Opinions on early oil change? Oil brand recommendations?

5. What is the solution for the Volvo on call? iPhone app hangs at the step where you are supposed to turn car modem off (3rd step?) Called Volvo and dealer and all they could muster was to advise that I reload iPhone app. Tried everything I found on volvoxc forum, didn't find much here. Still doesn't work and would like to use it. I would very much like to remote start and use other on call functionality. I know the system doesn't have the best rep, but surely some basic functionality can be wrung out of it.

6. Is there a 3D model of this car anywhere, specifically of the dash board? I have some ideas for 3D printed phone holder that mounts over the car's screen and can flip down.

Ideally I would like for the dealer to 'deal' with all of the above, save for 4 and 6.

best,

Rev

I would address the issues of the windows and the shudder with the dealer under warranty. Depending the nature of the pits in the rotor it may not be an issue, but I would take that up with the dealer also. If this Volvo has sit around on a dealers lot for two years I would for sure Change the oil and filter (doesn't Volvo do that for free for a couple of years) They should have changed it before they delivered it to you, but then I am not to sure about a dealer who had a new vehicle on their lot for two years! As far as oil, I use a full synthetic. The dealer should also fetter out the issue with the On Call. As far as a phone holder, why not just use the Bluetooth for phone and not mess around with a holder. If it is GPS you are wanting get a voice activated Garmin - they are great. I have mine mounted on left, just above the dash and ran wiring behind instrument panel. Enjoy your XC70

1. Warranty should fix
2. Warranty (or first year "adjustment period" should fix). Balance shouldn't be off already at only 2K miles.
3. Is this the rears? Those tend to look "terrible" after 10 miles but they don't actually "wear down" really fast.
4. Full synthetic, meeting the specs listed in your owner's manual.
6. Have you looked at ProClipUSA.com for phone mounts?

Thanks guys. @gorj it was a loaner / occasional driver for the dealership owners wife I was told, had about 400 mi on it. SO I don't believe it *sat* on the lot as much as I previously implied. Still, I am leaning toward doing an oil change. @Warpedcow ProClipUSA looks great! Doesn't have exactly what I am looking for but definitely something serviceable, what do you use?

I have mounts that go on the center of the dash between the vents (over the hazard warning light). Note mine are pre-sensus cars.

Do you have a picture of the interior dash/steering wheel you can show? Is the steering wheel the new kind with the narrow bottom chrome 3-point design with the 10 and 2 grip that is found on the 2016 XC70 T5?

I wonder if the 2015.5 T6 suspension is similar to the 2016 T5... our 2016 T5 is much tighter and more nimble than our 2012 T6

Quick update on this, as I finally found the time to bring it into the dealership.

They fixed all big issues under warranty. The screechy window needed a new part, and turns out the car needed new front rotors too. hence the shudder under hard braking. What could be the reason for that? Doesn't really add up to me, as this problem was extant from the beginning. or does a car with 500 mi need new rotors? They also replaced the pollen filter and cleaned the A/C system as there was a funny smell. Overall a good first warranty experience, but a little bit of a head scratcher.

Is there a way to find the history of a car, some record of all work done etc?

Looks like I am probably S.O.L. on the V.O.C, as my 6 month trial just ended. Turns out the car needed a software update which is why it never worked. I guess Volvo doesn't want me to try out their product, and from what I hear I am not missing much! I did like the idea of pre warming the car for the kid in the winter, but I can live without it!

The loaner was an XC60 T6 2017. Was interesting to try out the new 2.0L with the 8 speed transmission. Definitely doesn't compare to the 3.0L T6! In heavy stop and go traffic I did not notice an MPG improvement either. My feeling is that this engine would be great in a smaller car though. I did like the nimbleness of the XC60 as compared to my stock XC70, suspension felt a little stiffer.

@crossingCounties proclip looks awesome!

In other news- just got an IPD sway and can't wait to install.

Its even possible with just a bit of force to move the clip LEFT RIGHT after installation. It slides but never never ever on its own! Good luck.

Disk shudder is usually caused by uneven wear of the rotor. It is not normal unless it was stopped hard many times-like a lot of city traffic. Sometimes it is caused by poor pads depositing its material on the rotor. I assumed when thy replaced the rotors, they replaced the pads also. It is very rare it is cause by a warped rotor as is the thinking of many. These rotors are very thick and have a hollow core to help keep them cool and rarely ever warp. I have discovered the ceramic pads are the best. The do not have any brake dust, stop better, and last longer.

Front brakes are interesting. I have a 2015.5 T6 with 42k on it. I replaced the rear pads (should have done rotors too since they were worn more than expected, darn elect parking brakes, but seems to drive fine) about 1000 miles ago. Fronts were fine. Other than when I had solenoid in the AWD drive go out last summer the car has just had normal scheduled service. When I the AWD solenoid issues I had loaner XC70 T5 with the 4 cyl worked ok, but not as sooth as 3.0 6. So happy I got 6 instead.
