That "split" is normal and part of the mold - it shows how little rubber actually connects the stock mount.
Oh wow that's really strange. Wonder why they would do that. That's an awful picture too. There was some cracking on the actual rubber itself toward the center of the mount.

Any chance you have pictures or a little write up that we could stickie?
1) Remove middle cover from wheel wheel. (I pried out with a very small screwdriver, but some people have luck with suction cups)

2) Remove axle bolt (14mm). Clean any factory thread locker off the end (it's an off-white color).

3) Take your new XC90 bolt, (which is much shorter than the S40 bolt, but has the rubber boot) and remove the boot.

4) Put the boot on your original axle boot, apply thread locker, torque to 26 lbf/ft +90 degrees.

5) VERY IMPORTANT: Allow car to sit still for 6-10 hours (I just did overnight) for the thread locker to dry.

Blue or red thread locker?

Torque: Driveshaft to wheel hub (front)
Stage 1: 35 Nm
Stage 2: 90 degree

If you care for your car, never use an impact gun to tighten anything , only to remove.

Any pics on where the axle bolt is exactly? I haven't messed with the axles much and have no idea lol. I have a slight wub-wub and was hoping that replacing the bolt might help stop this.

I don't believe the bolt was replaced when I had suspension work done. I know they had my left axle off--and of course the noise is on the left axle.

It's between 40-65 ish. I've replaced all suspension including control arms and end links

Didn't realize it was right there lol

I haven't had a problem with mine, but I hear our front hubs/wheel bearings can go as early as 60k miles with normal use (I'm at 138k)

Same here! But now I'm wondering if that's really the source for the weird click I get...

So is the fix to swap the bolt with the XC90 one? Or to use the rubber boot off the XC bolt on the original S40 bolt?

UPDATE: 2-3 days after torquing the bolt with the XC90 bushing and locktite the sound is back. Keep in mind I torqued to 25 +90 instead of 35 +90. I have a feeling there's just too much play in the splines with the axle installed by the dealer.

Should I be worried about damage to my transmission with this?
