Dang...that '12 lease is looking a little better! Sales dude called back after receiving my 'sell us your Volvo' form all nicely filled out. Of course, they don't want to give me numbers over the phone(even though their email stated they would :
"This entire process can be conducted and finalized over the telephone from the comfort of your home or office."
That's OK...I know they want me on the floor so they can sell me another vehicle; BUT, I was very clear that selling MY vehicle was the reason for the inquiry. Naturally, the sales dude, even though he is the 'head guy', has to ask his 'manager' for the proper course of action.

This is all very interesting, especially as I believe the effective APR on a lease is under 1% right now.(Money factor ~.00035 ?)
It's nearly like a 1% balloon payment loan for three years except there's no obligation to buy(but the opportunity IS there) at the end of the three years. Four payments paid by Volvo, S& S for the life of the lease, MORE horsepower(did I mention that already? :) ).
Sorry for the continued derailment...I'll head over to my other thread.
that is why I was stuck on the 2012 MY. There is $1k rebate, plus Volvo throws and additional $1k in the trunk and makes the first 4 lease payments and free maintenance for 5 years. Money factor was equal to about 1.99%

We got the car. Pics to come shortly. Picking it up this evening, I'll have to bring it back in next week to do the software/Nav install.

More good news. The "2013" price increase bumps the NAV from the dealer to $2400 (from $1800). I got him down to list, ($2000) and we are getting it. Mrs. Rizzo wants it and happy wife=happy life. Plus the car is too nice for an add-on Garmin IMHO.

The reason why this is of no help is because (as I said in the original post) there are no 2012 Cosmics with Platinum within 500 miles of me, so I have to settle for Prem. Plus and add the nav. However - the dealer quote for Nav AND the camera makes the car cost more than the Platinum package...

Thanks for this. I actually went to 3 dealers (I think one of them was Power) and ended up at Culver City because they were the largest in the west. That how I know there are no '12's with platinum and Cosmic nearby :)
If you say so! :D

Congrats on the new car, though...nice color.

I'm going to buy the hitch from the Volvo parts website and put it in myself, so a picture would be cool!!
.
What about the warranty aspect?

It should be a fun project though.

In regards to the trailer hitch parts of the post: I have an R-design, and I have an aftermarket hitch, put on by Volvo to include wiring harness and the software upgrade. There is no bumper or fascia to cut with my hitch (only a small removal/cutting of the turkey pan, foil like heat shield). Very clean install. It can be done pretty easily. I have a post about the particular model I bought if you search for hitch related threads. Hope this helps.

My XC 60 came with Nav prep... I had the dealer install NAV. They add the button on the console and switch out the "mute" button for the voice activation button.

The system is now identical to a vehicle that came in with nav. The addition of the voice activation was nice as well.

GrecianVolvo, was the evidence good enough for you?

/Martin
Not really...still pictures mean nothing to me especially when they are inconclusive (in my opinion). And my Volvo docs are telling me that the Gen V system does come with Instant Traction while it is much lighter than Gen IV.

Got it back from the dealer today. Exactly as you say....I did not know it had voice recognition!

On the down side. My satellite radio stopped working and I don't see live traffic.
I'm hoping that it just needs a good reboot.

And haldex webpage info and the work lunds univeristy did?

Volvo focusng on weiht and fuel eficiency is smat isn't, then they don't need to mention anything about performance.....

trailer hitch wiring

Hi guys,
I am a French new owner of V50 2004, i think i am not in the right post, but i am looking for help, information and, or pictures about "trailer hitch wiring" because i bought a trailer hitch yesterday, "volvo model" with plugs, strange box connection , wires, and were looking for wiring diagram in the wrap around carton , but nothing, i have got a lot of pictures about few screws replacement "with protective wear of course", how to cut off plastic parts, (with eyes protection of course), but nothing about connection to existing wires, every information helping to solve problem should be helpful, and for salary i will edit back a new post with nice pictures and comments (not in French of course).
regards

To date, I don't think ONE SINGLE person here has ever posted about having added on nav after the purchase using the "nav-prep". Volvo is making a lot of extra $95 given the cars that have this feature included. I find it interesting that no other manufacturer that I know of offers a similar feature, probably because the demand just isn't there or it isn't worthwhile.

If you do do it though, it definitely is the factory system. It's the real deal, not some aftermarket afterthought. One unresolved question is what kind of warranty comes with it. Depending on when/how/who installs it, at port before delivery, or after you've taken the car, it might, or might not, be covered by the full car warranty. Or is it just one year? There are a lot of unanswered questions around nav-prep.

Most people that want nav after the fact just purchase a garmin, some purchase the special volvo pillar mount for the garmin. If you do take advantage of the nav prep, post back with your experience, I think you'll be the first!!
Well, let me be the first, then, We got the factory navi installed stateside after having nav prep put on OSD. We weren't sure if we wanted it, but after playing with one prior to our XC60 arriving, we decided the hands free calling and voice command nav was just too sweet. It is exactly like the factory installed unit. We have the navi button on the stack and all the appropriate ones on the steering wheel (hands free). While we still feel the Garmin and Magellan maps are superior to the Volvo for viewing detail, I have used the voice command navigation numerous times and have been quite pleased.

Oh, and it IS a full Volvo covered deal. It falls under the same five year thing that the rest of the car does. It is not some second hand unit. Also, I don't think they do port side installation any longer. I don't understand the big mystery here.
