Since both the S80 and C30 came out in 2007 and the S80 just got a minor refresh should we expect a mid-cycle refresh for the C30 this summer/fall? Since Ford Europe can squeeze 300 HP out of the T-5 maybe Volvo can at least pump it up to say 260?

Maybe Volvo will show something interesting at New York in April?

Haven't heard even a hint of a refresh.

I have heard that there are rumors that the C30 will be discontinued in the N. American market due to the state of the economy and sales numbers.

Bad timing for Volvo to introduce a premium hatch coupled with the decision to do little to know advertising which keeps the car from being in contention on a buyer's list.

Re: When is the C30 due for an Update? (DCPattie)

The other rumor that was floating around is that there would be a performance version of the C30 (see Ford Focus RS).

Given the state of the economy and Volvo's generally conservative image, I'd speculate that the project would be shelved if it ever did exist.

The 300bhp C30 is coming in limited number to coincide with volvo's return to the BTCC championship next month. C30R is due this summer.

THe C70 is getting a facelift nextyear so I guess the C30 will join it. Two potential facelifts have been shown on the ReCharge concept and the Efficiency concepts......

C30R is real.
We were supposed to see it in Gothenburg, but the prototype was up north doing winter testing.

Any idea if the R will utilize the Revo knuckle system introduced on the Focus RS?

God, if they bring this to the states, I'm going to have to figure out a way to get my hands on one!

Dunno.
I tend to doubt it since it will be AWD.

I think I might have to trade in my C30 T5 for a C30 R.

But if it has a DCT, then forget it. I am keeping my manual.

I'm sure it will have the manaul.
If for no other reason than to keep the price down.
In fact, I HOPE they don't offer it with an automatic at all.
It will keep the posers away.

Re: When is the C30 due for an Update? (VolvoMax)

Really?! I'd be very surprised to see that given that Ford stated that the cost and weight of adding AWD to the RS is what lead to the use of the Revo Knuckle system.

The automotive press has raved about it even going so far as to say that it's hard to believe that the RS isn't awd given it's excellent handling.

Ford indeed rejected the AWD system from volvo due to weight but also because the head of development, Jost Capito, said he found the feedback from AWD is less clear. Or to put it another way, he and his team felt that a FWD only car gives more intuitive feedback and feel as there isnt the AWD system playing with front rear drive adjustments. THe RS team therefore wanted to find a way to make the RS work as a FWD car. The RS is also a different character to the ST, more hardcore. The C30 isnt as harsh/hardcore as the RS so AWD suits it more. Volvo's views on AWD for high performance car verses Ford's seem to be different. VW, Audi dont seem to have problem with AWD performance cars.

The Revoknuckle is very interesting. Volvo seems to have access to this technology/suspension knowhow. Be sure the revoknuckle design will surely make it ways into newer FWD suspension designs at Ford and Volvo.

Volvo is going for AWD it seems but how about Revoknuckle combined with AWD.......

I've read the articles on the RS.
It is pretty clear that there is still torque steer, it's just not as bad as before.
I agree w/ Shimon that the C30 is aimed at a more grown up market and so AWD is mandatory.

I find the whining about so called torque steer to be pretty pathetic.
When looking for sportive FWD combined with higher power and limited slip differential the torque steer part is a feature. For so long now many Volvo freaks are having shiploads of fun with FWD Volvo's either with or without LSD and with much higher power at the front wheels compared to the Focus RS. If set up properly you don't hear them complaining. C30T5 with a chip and some and with a good suspension shows hardly any signs of torque steer and has very good traction control. Maybe the power steering is a bit over assisted but that doesn't keep the experience from being great fun. One might expect the RS to behave even better and it certainly is a guarantee for fun.

Agreed Johann.

I've driven plenty of high power FWD cars and find them very enjoyable and with some finesse, torque steer isn't unmanageable. The RS would seem to have optimized this set up and I'd gladly have a C30R with the Revo set over the weight and expense of AWD any day.
