Hi, do you guys have any info about the SIM card slot located in front of the rear view mirror? I remember reading about some of you using it for data in countries where lte is not offered by Volvo by default.
which size of SIM card does the slot accept and how would I insert one?

I think it depends on the model year (Sensus vs. AAOS). For Sensus it is in the passenger kick panel.

In the sensus cars, depending on the model they are in various places. For example an S60/V60 has it in the passenger side footwell under the glovebox and to the right. In an XC90 it is in the trunk under the floorboard. In a PS1 its behind the rear seats under a little compartment.

In AAOS vehicles, there is an empty SIM slot in the overhead compartment.

Ok, just tested, and it is not a (µ)SD slot. It is indeed a mini-SIM slot. Mini, as in the second smallest SIM size.
However, I have not yet been able to instruct the "car" to use the SIM card that I inserted into that slot. Whatever options I try in the infotainment console, I end up in some T-mobile licence acceptance screen that want to extract every possible detail of personal info about me. F that!
While browsing the manuals I came across an interesting piece of info: If you hold down the windshield defroster button for more than 20 seconds, it will reset/restart the built-in modem. You won't get any notification apart from that the signal strength "triangle" in the top left of the center screen, turns into a greyed-out triangle with a small cross over it, during the restart.

Defroster button trick is very widely known at this point. I was informed about it by my dealer when I got my car.

Have exactly the same issue. Tried installing the data sim-card in the slot. The car just doesn’t see it. Reload with defrost button doesn’t help. Really curious how to activate this SIM card slot.

Habe genau das gleiche Problem. Habe versucht, die Daten-SIM-Karte in den Steckplatz einzubauen. Das Auto sieht es einfach nicht. Nachladen mit Auftautaste hilft nicht. Ich bin wirklich neugierig, wie man diesen SIM-Kartensteckplatz aktiviert.

Ich habe auch das Problem. Sim Karte eingebaut - Modem wird aber vom System im Menü gar nicht angezeigt. Ein Neustart mit der Defrostertaste hilft auch nicht weiter.
Hast Du schon eine Lösung erhalten.?

What do you mean that it's not active? You can't add internet to a AAOS Volvo? Will this ever work?

not a xc60 but a xc40 recharge but same SIM card slot etc. My country isn't supported by Volvo for LTE (even though we have nationwide 5g/lte and people coming with their volvos from abroad get reception here.)

My dealer stated that there is no wiring between the SIM card slow and the car itself. It is just a remnant of Sensus ICE cars

Is your country Malta? Are you sure its not connected, why wouldn't it be?
