Are you happy with Android Automotive on your XC60 2022 (has it been trouble free)?

  • Definitely Yes! You should go ahead and buy the new 2022 XC60.

  • Definitely No. I had too many issues with and would not suggest anyone to buy it.

  • May be. I had some very minor issues and they were fixed easily and did not re-occur again

Start stop is permanent again on 2022 models?
Yes, but it is so much better...the transition is almost undetectable..very quiet and smooth. There is an indicator light in the driver display that turns green when the engine is stopped.

I believe only the gas (B5/B6) models are perma-on. I can't turn it off in mine because I don't have access to the Drive Modes (B6).

Points to remember when driving with the Comfort mode
  • the start/stop function is activated from start.
Points to remember when driving with the Dynamic mode
  • the ground clearance is lower in order to reduce roll during cornering
  • start/stop function is deactivated.

While i agree that S/S is great now (you can't feel a damn thing). I think it must have a negative effect on some of the car components (mainly the turbocharger and battery). For people changing their cars every 2-3 years it's not a problem though. It's the next owner that will "know" for sure ;)

Have no idea and, you are right, time will tell but isn't the battery being recharged continuously by the regen braking, etc.??

Coming from a 2015 Lexus with the horrible infosystem they had the Android system is a huge step up. My husband has Android Auto on his BMW and I don't see any advantage over what I have in my 22 XC60 Recharge. I can play Spotify or stream from my phone and get Google maps and navigation. That's all I need. If you could side load things like Audible it would be perfect but for now I just stream from my phone.

Hi,
I have the MY 2022 T6 Recharge and previously I had the My 2021 T6 recharge.
I confirm that it remains a car for beta testers.
The car is unfinished, with functions reduced to a minimum.
Many incomprehensible choices, no drive mode, no MP3 player, no Harman Kardon equalizer, no air suspension adjustments. Android auto auto often freezes.
Often fails to call smartphone numbers correctly. Central screen with black hole or google maps navigator, no driving information.
Navigator that recent destinations cannot be deleted, zero privacy.
I am not happy and after only 1 month of XC60 My 2022 I have already ordered the T6 recharge MY 2023 with increased battery at 77km.
In the meantime, I hope they fix all bugs in these 6 months of waiting.
One last thing, the My 2021 was perfect for functions and options, it would have been enough to implement google maps and not all the car that runs on the big brother android system.

2022 XC60 Recharge here. While actual errors/faults I've encountered are few and minor - and mainly related to the SiriusXM app - my biggest gripe about Google/AA is that it seems to be a very lazy infotainment implementation. Like someone modeled the UI/UX after an old tablet, renamed the menus and icons and called it a day. Unless you're actively navigating and using maps, both screens are just large, underutilized voids. To be blunt - on-screen graphics and functionality in much cheaper cars look so much better.

On my Recharge I do have a functionality gripe because MY2022 lacks a physical drive mode button so you have to tap through Settings>Driving>Drive modes to change it. That particular setting always defaults to Hybrid when you turn the car on and is not a voice-command accessible setting. I find myself switching between hybrid and pure on almost every trip from the context of where I'm going so tapping through a menu is really annoying.

Otherwise the XC60 is a fine vehicle and I'd buy another Volvo for sure.

This one would really bug me especially since you can't set a default starting drive mode. We're scheduled to get over 100" of snow this week. I have to hit Constant AWD every single time I want to leave my drive way at this point and hitting the physical button and then the mode is still annoying as hell.

@cowfootball 100% yes.

Default to Hybrid is a global setting and you can't even make a user profile that starts off in something else.

Most of our trips during the week are easily within a 10-mile radius so I'd like to start off in PURE as we're mainly dealing with surface roads and neighborhood trips and I want to run it like an EV as much as possible.

But when I know I'll be dealing with longer trips or freeways I'd like to start off in HYBRID-HOLD, and switch to PURE again once on surface roads in/around destination.

Tapping through a text-based menu system on the fly is NOT ideal. I'm going by muscle memory at this point but it sure feels like driving an excel sheet.

FWIW, I mentioned this albeit much abridged to Volvo UK PR lead over Twitter a week ago.

I think Volvo should do one of these (or both):

- enhance the gear shifter, when in D pulling left should cycle between drive modes, pulling right should cycle between B mode and whatever the other was.

- add a small beautiful volvo car icon to the left of setting gear on the home screen, pushing that should bring a screen with big drive modes only like in Sensus

Also I understand the default mode on start is Hybrid and they have to do that for some emission rules in some locations. But they can still give a choice to change default between Pure and Hybrid at least!

At minimum, this! I want a graphic of what this drivetrain is doing visible in both the instrument binnacle and main screen; preferably accessible via the steering wheel buttons in the right. Like I said it's like someone just got lazy with the UI/UX.

I cannot imagine 100" of snow. Here in Nashville schools are closed for the forecast of snow!

The physical drive mode selector doesn't have a lot to do with Android Auto. I can't recall where I read it but Volvo basically said that the feature wasn't being used and wasn't seen as useful. Personally, in 2.5 years I've owned the car, I've never switched the drive mode (that's just me though, I'm not presuming to suggest that it is not a useful feature for other drivers).

Android Auto being missing I see as a non-issue, as a dedicated Android guy. If my car is already linked to google maps, why do I need Android Auto? I'd be super ticked if I was a Apple guy though. If I loved carplay, this would be a deal breaker.

My 2019 doesn't have "basic cruise control." Its ACC or pilot assist. I never liked this as I'd rather just go with good old fashioned dumb cruise control.

And, yeah, the new system is going to be dependent on carrier connection. That's the flaw in the approach many new infotainment systems are taking. In North America, good coverage is not a universal experience.
I'm not sure if my 18 can do standard cruise or just adaptive and pilot but I use acc most of the time. Pilot assist is reactive instead of proactive which makes it ping pong and jerky.

I use the selector wheel constantly. Dumb move to take it out.

Google automotive use was a good idea but wasn't ready for prime time. If a car company is going to invest in tech like Google automotive in a vehicle to control everything, then it must be done right. The investment in coders is the most crucial. As someone who has been an Android fan and a hack-everything person, I can tell you that most of the time, Android just isn't fixed. They'll add new features but keep bugs for ages that affect real usability. This is why I'm going apple. Carplay is better. The fact that the new volvos don't have something on the Android system that you can literally factory retrofit on a 17 and up Mazda is laughable at best. I am certain that sales have been lost. I also think it may not be anyone's fault with the pandemic considered. Either way, people who keep saying they're smart are dropping the ball. Last time I checked, code can be done from home and with Microsoft teams\zoom\etc., there's no reason for lack of communication within the teams. With no accountability, this will continue. I really love my current Volvo and would have hated to buy the new one with that many issues and glaring omissions to start with. I was going to get another one. Not now. Sour taste from software.

Sent from an annoying phone using unbridled frustration.

What kind of Sirius/XM problems are you having? Mine keeps freezing up and I can only scroll through channels using wheel on steering wheel. Infortainment screen shows wrong channel and wrong song/artist. Only way to fix it is with a reset on the infotainment system black button. Also, Google voice won't change the channels in Sirius and doesn't even really seem to recognize that Sirius is installed.

Dealer seems to think there is a mid January update coming that will fix this...I sure hope so.

I know you're asking SAZ but I thought I'd jump in to say that my Sirius is ok - other than the incorrect channel/artist/track information being displayed (happens with the radio as well) That pales in comparison to the entire infotainment system just crashing, as mine did, while driving down the highway on NYE. My daughter and I just looked at the blank screen puzzled. The behind-the-steering wheel display of speed/tach was still alright and the car still had control but it seemed to stay blank for about 5-to-10 seconds (hard to say exactly because I was focused on driving) and then booted itself back up. It was ultimately fine but clearly a memory leak or Android crash...

I've also hit a few other issues with the radio. In fact I'm curious. Is there actually a radio in the car or is it just an app that says 'Radio' and based on your location presents stations over something similar to the TuneIn Radio app? I ask because when I change regular radio stations there is always a slight pause before the new channel is playing.
