Just picked up a '22 XC60, but the only drive mode available is Off-Road?

Manual says that Comfort/Dynamic/Off-Road should be available. Anyone seeing these options in their Settings?

Thanks!

Incredibly, instead of the newer model having better options than the old one, the older ones have a lot more options.
My R-Design 2018 has:
  • COMFORT
  • ECO
  • OFF ROAD
  • DYNAMIC
  • INDIVIDUAL
Maybe chip shortage has affected on drive mode ?

I feel like the Google OS is very much a work in progress. Interesting quirks, Google Assistant won't navigate to any of my contacts, but will call them. You can't get any kind of song info displayed along with the map during navigation, even when advancing songs (YouTube Music). Dropping the rear headrests is three menus deep (swiping left to the quick controls is gone from the interface).

Interesting thought on it being hardware related, I would hope not..but who knows. I have an appointment on the 8th to get the Polestar tune installed.

Google-equipped vehicles do not have the drive mode wheel, any more.
Interesting. It was an odd selection input anyways but tapping through menu screens is kind of lame.

I never particularly liked COMFORT/ECO/DYNAMIC as drive modes because the difference is so tiny and it feels overwhelming to most users, but like normal/power/off-road seem like minimum viable requirements.

The XC60 is not the first model with Google OS, it already exists in the XC40.
Probably a problem with Volvo developers to apply this system to the XC60
I in my second car have the option to choose navigation between installed maps or Google maps and it works without any problems, I even have the option Google street view

That's it for drive modes on my 22 XC60 B6.

In addition to the above comments, Google Assistant cannot find anything on my calendar.

Thanks so much for confirming. Disappointing, especially considering the XC60 manual says we should have three options available. Will have to give my Google Calendar a try, will let you know if it returns anything.

What’s in the Driving Dynamics menu at the bottom of the screen?

Oh interesting, so it seems like they split up a lot of the individual settings of the former drive modes into separate functions/menus but they did away with the engine response options - very odd and seemingly kind of a pain. Does it save the settings from the previous drives or some kind of individual profile you can access quickly?

I wonder what the T8 Recharge options look like now since you have the added complexity of managing how the electric motor functions in combo with ICE.

It does save the settings, which is a big improvement over the old Drive Mode wheel in my '19 S60.

But the Volvo manual claims that you should be able to set the car to Dynamic in these settings...

Way to go Volvo plus G..le...

What I'm about to say will attract all the lightning from techie aficionados that wish a car is a like a smart phone.... and for what? Apps?

I had Android phones since v3.20 so I know the gotchas. I worked in sw for them.
I now work in SW and FW for embedded industrial products.
And neither I or the tech leads I work with would ever put G..le in an embedded product that is supposed to "just work no matter what", with no humans around. Without going in the details about what we do, please rest assured that if we would do this a good chunk of the humanity would have "software issues " with serious social side effects.

IMO Volvo made a mistake here.
Yeah, sure, I know all about the business cases of using SW from pros vs your own grown and so, after all I deal with this presure in my job. But when we ask the right questions, the SW vendors go away because they can't deliver what we need and they know it. And our managers stop the pressure when they get it about the availability rate we have to deliver.

A car should be a car, yes with evolved GUI features but under the control of the folks who know their stuff. Look at Tesla, Korean, Japanese, etc.

For me this is a clear case of the Product Managers at Volvo outsourcing this to 3rd parties without good specs to be met and happy to wash their hands off it and "restructure" the engineering teams. As I said I see the same pressure in my work place.

This is for a car for crying out loud, not a tablet or a smart phone. THAT is the key requirement.

Anyways, enough of my rant.

This is why I bought my V90CC at the end of the lease instead of swapping it with a 2022 model.

Peace and Enjoy your new G...le cars [emoji6]

I am a techie... and I cannot agree with you more. There is practically no money anyone can pay me to get me to own a car with Google on it. This is all part of the great de-content from Volvo, petty cost cutting and aiming to go down market. Even Kia/Hyundai didn't dare to do this. Not a popular view I know, but I can only say it is from extensive experience with Google and monitoring how they work while developing my home system. There is 0 chance this thing will ever be reliable, or at least as reliable as the previous sensus.

I think they will improve this overtime. But I am glad I recently purchased a 2021 instead a 2022. The system works flawlessly.

"G...le" is as cringe as M$ of days of old, for what it's worth. You can say the words, there's no boogeyman comin'. Full disclosure: I work in Security at Google but I have nothing to do with Android (I'm pretty far removed).

IMO, the problem is that car manufacturers just can't hire and retain talent for software engineers. Their pay and conditions aren't competitive and their locations too restrictive.

A car should be a car, yes with evolved GUI features but under the control of the folks who know their stuff. Look at Tesla, Korean, Japanese, etc.
I'm in Tesla's beta program and I've received money from their bug bounty for finding vulnerabilities. Their software is top tier trash. They have some decent UI/UX engineers though and the lipstick goes on the pig pretty nicely. I do however also think that most vehicle manufacturer software is trash when it comes to infotainment (which is very different than any other software on the car). I think manufacturers are rightfully looking to keep their SWE's focused on writing good embedded software for canbus and control chain work without dealing with infotainment, similar to the airline industry. Certainly from a security and quality perspective, the embedded space has always had the worst code I've ever looked at (in close to a decade reverse engineering and doing analysis).

Anyways all of this is to say that I think vehicle infotainment is likely to continue to be a damned industry until consumers start to really care about it and pick one car over another for it which I don't see happening any time soon (vs badge prestige, drive, etc).

Not having the wheel works in Europe where you can save driving modes... but in the USA, where you have to re-select them every time you turn the car back on, this is a nightmare.

Of course, assuming driving modes are available in the first place...

Lots of big no-nos. I would not consider a car without Sirius XM in the first place... but Google is a big downvote from me as well. If you've ever owned an Android phone, why would you ever want that experience in a car?

Volvomd, tried out the calendar last night, and it works for me. Could be your personalization settings for the Google Assistant, here's what mine look like:
