2006 Xc70 with 140K mikes. I had started to get an intermittent P0089 code a year or so ago. I changed the fuel pressure sensor with a new Bosch unit and replaced the fuel filter. The engine code went away for awhile. A month or so ago, the code started to come back. It now comes back right after resetting it. I have changed the fuel filter again, but that didn’t help. I checked the fuel pressure at the rail and got these numbers:
At startup-55psi, running-44 psi, 10 mins after shutoff-40psi, 30 mins after shutoff-35 psi, and 1 hr after shutoff-26 psi. I was going to replace the fuel pump to see if that fixes it. The car starts and runs great. Is there anything else I should replace instead of the fuel pump? The fuel pump replacement seems pretty straight forward compared to other vehicles I have changed the pump in. Thanks

Do you have VIDA-DICE? If so, check the fuel pump duty cycle. At idle, it should be in the mid-30% range. You may have a bad pump control module. Is yours under the car, or relocated inside? The undercar modules can leak and be damaged.

Pump replacement was one of the more simple fuel pump replacements that I have done. I used this guide: Let's change the fuel pump on a 2004 XC70
Only took a couple of hours. My tank was almost empty which definitely helped. I would recommend using your vin number to source your pump as the first pump that FCP Euro sent me had a slightly different plug than mine. I found a cheap tool for the pump lock ring on amazon. Also don't hook up the battery until the wiring to the seat is connected as I now have an airbag code to clear.

Well the code came back. Had a few good months code free after the fuel pump change. Have replaced about everything related(FPS, multiple fuel filters, fuel pump). The car runs great, so I may just try to ignore the code. Although I hate seeing a CEL in any of my cars.

Well hope I am not in same boat as you, a few weeks ago my 07 started down the P0089 road, appearing off & on after clearing it first time i saw it and reader confirmed 305 - 320Kpa at idle maybe 400 @ 2K rpm, so a week and a half ago changed the fuel filter that had like almost 2 yrs on it & 18K mi (the one before it was still origional with paper build stickers) Well when i started it after flushing some fuel prior to filter hook up no CEL. Lasted 2 days, has been on for 2 weeks without going off, just received the fuel pressure monitoring switch AND fuel pressure checking gauge from FCP figuring if the manifold switch does not work i need the gauge to go beyond what my code reader shows or for comparison. Will change out the switch tomorrow and see what happens.
Also no signs of any failure in performance car runs great, did a 400 mile trip thru the mountains last weekend with CEL on and ran great. And like you I dont want the CEL burning for any reason.

Will Report back
