My D3 does have a slightly narrow power band - it does start to tail off after 3000 rpm. Neverheless, it's still an impressive engine. Any lack of grunt can easily be solved with an ECU remap! :D Besides, it's no big deal - I very rarely rev it to 4000 rpm. The trip computer is pretty accurate.
And that is fixed with the new D3 MY12 engine, max output is now 163hp @ 3500rpm. The old D3 version had peak output at 2900rpm.

I ordered last Thursday and was given a mid June Delivery date or sooner - so fingers crossed.

Ordered a
V60 R-design 163bhp Manual
Passion Red
Conv Pack
Heated Seats
Family Pack..

Can't wait to move on from my V50.

turbotuner let us know all the details of how you are getting on :)

Hi Knallert, do you have a link to more information about the MY12 D3?

I've seen the official Volvo press release about the changes to the D3 and D5 engines, but it doesn't give any hard data on the D3 ... it just says the turbo unit has been "fine tuned" to further improve driveability.

cheers, Craig

Good luck with your new motor! :)

BTW, RICA already have a turbocharger upgrade for the V60 D3 which gives an extra 50 hp at the end of the rev range, and that's on top of a remap!!! :)

But they said to wait for this new MY2012 turbo, because then they can see whether this newer turbo is going offer any further benefits.

I can't work out from the available info whether the MY12 D3 has a different turbo unit to the MY11, or if the turbo tweaks are confined to the mapping / VNT actuator only (perhaps a new stepper motor?)

Volvo's own MY12 specs for the S/V60 include the lower emissions (presumably because stop/start is now standard) from the D3, but still state 163PS @ 3000rpm and 400nm from 1400 - 2850rpm, as per the MY11 cars.

However, the MY12 specs (from the official price / spec sheets) for the S80 and V70 give the D3 engine's figures as 163PS @ 3,500 and 400nm from 1500 - 2750rpm. Maybe by narrowing the top of the torque curve slightly, they've broadened the overall curve, hence the higher peak-power rpm ....

Of course, printed specs can be misleading or incorrect, or maybe they are using different mappings in the "full size" models?

Probably info for MY12 has not changed or been updated in all places. S/V60 will get the same new D3 as other models.

You know... I really didn't like the look of the V60 when it was released... but it has really grown on me and I am QUITE jealous... a 6-Speed Diesel Wagon!

I want it!

If (and hopefully when) Volvo NA brings the V60 AWD Diesel Hybrid (fingers crossed in RDesign Livery), I'll be hard pressed to convince myself not to make a switch.

That would be like the next 6 Christmases come early. Lol. Good luck on the wishlist. However it really is a shame they haven't brought the V60 to the US. I personally know several people looking for a wagon platform and know there would be interest in a bunch of members on here. Seems to be a general demand for it.
I thought the V60 AWD Diesel Hybrid was coming as a "niche" market vehicle for NA. And coming as a 2013 model?? I might be wrong and making a lot of assumptions, but that was the impression I got when they released details on it at the Geneva (?) Auto Show.

Damn nice. Wish we could have gotten those here. I might be driving one now.

Beauty!! Enjoy!
Just saw this quote in the "News" section about the V60 Hybrid - Diesel/Electric...

"The V60 Plug-in Hybrid, which will be available on the market in 2012, is the result of close cooperation between Volvo Cars and Swedish energy supplier Vattenfall."

The BIG question is....what MARKET(s) ???

This is by far the nicest V60 I've seen! (Here in Sweden I see at least ten V60s per day.)
