This shot is taken from the install instructions for Volvo's new portable GPS mount.

It looks like a modified S60 with no more monovent and the screen more centerized like most other cars. Still has the key slot way up there and that ugly overlapping bottom center console part. Don't understand why they can't just flow together.

Thoughts ???

2012 V70/XC70/S80 is my guess.

Yeah, I'm fairly certain that's the 2012 XC70 (and V). When they released the new Marine edition V60, V70, etc (the ads with the cars driving on water), the XC70 dashboard indicated that it would be borrowing cues from the XC60 nav display.

Look at the dashboard lines from the V & XC 70s

Yes, good eye. It does look at least like the new 70s dash.

Great! I guess all those that complained (me included) about the wierd unsymmetrical S60 dash had "some" valid point? So Volvo is back to a symmetrical design and RIP the ugly cyclops monovent? That didn't take long.....

I just really wish they could properly locate the key slot (or make PCC std) and fix the top of the center stack to look more integrated.

Too bad all we get is the XC70. Ughhhh.

Actually just found out that Volvo has already released this info and it IS the 70s. There's a thread over on the current gen 70s forum.

Here's a pic of the interior:

Nice.

I just wish they could make something as nice as this but keep the concept of the center being angled slightly towards the driver like on the S60.

I just hope that it looks less "afterthough" like in real life. These photos don't leave me with much hope. It's obvious that they just added the huge pod to the old dash to accomodate the new Sensus screen.

The double humps... BMW 3/5/7 series anyone?
IMO, double humps are so yesterday. Also, some of them I don't like because it makes it harder to place a portable nav unit, and the Volvo looks like such a design.

Maybe this is why Volvo went with the drivers side portable mount? Where could one center mount a garmin in this new 70s interior?

I actually prefer the newer BMW 5 and 7 series dash. Volvo should have just copied that, and changed it so that immediately to the right of the screen, it dropped down and merged with the center console to make it feel more like a drivers car.

Clearly a "just get it done now and we'll fix it later" type of decision. The NHTSA is this close to requiring screens and back up cameras in all cars. Screenless dashboards are headed the way of the metal key. I'd rather see Volvo do a servicable quick fix rather than wait a couple more years until they "get it right". Screenless cars will be a problem on used car lots in the next few years, might as well head off the problem asap. On the other hand, if what I'm seeing is thought of as a well thought out updgrade and not an emergency fix, then, um, I take it all back. It looks like someone slammed their fist on the dash in anger and raised a welt.

For such a safety oriented company, I am simply stunned that now that Volvo is adding standard screens to all it's car, that they don't also offer the backup camera as standard.

They could say world's first standard backup camera. I don't think anybody else offers it standard.

What's wrong with copying a successful design? Looks like my '07 MDX too?

Oh, and that's just the 3 series...the 5 and 7 do not have another hump any longer.
Well I guess thats my point.. first off they are copying a design rather than creating their own. And the fact that BMW pioneered that design nearly ten years ago makes this new Volvo interior already seem dated. For a company thats been on a roll design-wise as of late, IMO its just kind of a let down...
