Re: You like'a my new gauge? (juve021)

Um. Need. Can has?

If it's a custom jobby, I wonder if you could write-in the notifications available int he DIM, and then just reaplce the DIM with this unit? I hate green LCD letters.

And in case I wasn't clear - I would definitely mate with this. Baboon or no baboon

Re: (JoeLvo)

To answer some questions:
It will be mounted under my boost gauge, where the cupholder would be next to the head unit.

I'm programming it serially so it can be hooked up to any device (PC, STAMP, PIC, ARDUINO etc) that can communicate via serial means.

I will be using external sensors however I'm sure that at least, this uController (PICAXE-18x) can directly accept the parameters from the existing sensors. For example, the recent post about boost sensor values to voltage values. These voltages can be read in by the analog to digital converted and dealt with within the uController pretty easily.

Re: You like'a my new gauge? (juve021)

Gosh Juve, you are always ahead of me by one step. But I am working on a similar thing, but just is 50x more ambitious. Probably too ambitious that I'll never get around to it with the amount of work I have to do right now. Lol.

Plan is:

ELM327 (OBD Interpreter) paired with a small serial-to-RF adapter. All in a small, compact box with an OBD plug on it, that is powered off of the OBD port. ELM327 reads the OBD, smacks that out through serial, and the adapter takes the serial output and smacks that out through RF. Why am I saying smack? Its just such a cool word...

Then there is a small black bock in the arm rest/console area that taps the switched 12V cigarette lighter power. On the box are 2 power-only USB ports for charging your cell phone(s). Then there is an iPod wire with a dock connector on one end (USB 5V charging, so supporting 2nd gen iPod Touches) that charges the iPod and also pulls the line level audio out of the dock connector. Then the little black box has a wire that goes to the aux input in the console.

Then there would be a RF receiver unit from the OBD reader to take the data flow and process it, then display it on a LCD mounted somewhere easily readable, as well as a Lantronix Matchport serial to WLAN adapter so that the data can be pulled off laptops, etc.

And the head of the operations? Probably a PIC.

Man, I don't know where to start. Maybe I'll have to do this in the summer. I still have some robots to build for competitions before I get around to this.....

If you get this to work and get the Volvo PIDs to display, you'll be a GOD

Re: You like'a my new gauge? (juve021)

I http://********************/smile/emlove.gif threads like these!! Speaking as a computer builder (aka no where CLOSE to you all's 1337 skillz), I am f*cking ecstatic that I belong to this board. Though, I can hear my debit card crying from in my wallet all the way across the room... It's wailing something about "invest" or "savings" or some sort of nonsense.... Finish these products already, so I can have you build one for me!!!

Cheers!!

Thanks guys and gals. It will be a long process but I think its going to turn out pretty decent.

What kinds of measurements besides boost, oil temps, exhaust temps would people want to see this thing do?

How do you like mine?

Just messin' with ya. I won't be able to make anything like that (just yet), short of a one-off (or two-off).
