That is, to get any owner information like service information, your car's brochure, or owner's manual, etc. What really gets me is that you have to put your VIN # into your registeration info. When I did this with either of our cars' info, the registeration process was halted and on the screen it said that I had entered incorrect information and I could not look any further into the owners' area. I know I have correct VIN #'s for our cars. Has anyone else seen this? What is this...a way to send you junk mail from Volov??
Here, check this out:
http://www.volvocars.us/tools/OwnersInfo/

I agree George...It's a slap in the face. What are they going to use all of that personal information for...that's what I want to know....besides, I still can't get in and I used the VIN's of both of our cars.

Pretty common to ask for VIN numbers. I had to for GMC for my Denali.

Right, but I've put both in and still it comes up with that area pinked out, as if my VIN #'s are wrong...I can't get in. More than the VIN, I'm concerned about getting tons of junk mailings from giving them my address, phone numbers and email address.

Re: (MadeInJapan)

The site was fine before the registration requirement to enter the Owners Area. As stated, the Find a Dealer site requires no registration.
The VIN data base is already available to Ford as part of the car purchase activities. Volvo has chosen to accumulate fresh marketing activity with the apparent intent to sell the data.
Ford posted billion+ loss for last quarter - no way to make up the difference doing this to us confirmed dedicated Volvo types.
George Dill

The VIN is not required for registration. By the way, registration was required for the Owner's Circle up until 2 - 3 years ago. I distinctly remember having to register my 2003 V70. So they have gone back to what they had before, which is the usual practice for the industry.
The privacy policy states that your information will not be disclosed, sold or traded to third parties without your permission: http://www.volvocars.us/footer/privacypolicy/

Why is registration required? I expect there are a number of possible uses for the information, including:
1. Marketing - although it should be noted that they already have information on most customers whose cars are still under warranty.
2. The experience can be tailored based on the information provided. For example, recalls can be specific for your VIN.
3. Identification of owners who have moved and used cars buyers for warranty/recall notification.
4. Bandwidth management

It did not recogize the VIN for my S70, and it gave me attitude about using an older OS (Win Me). When I tried to sign-up w/o a VIN, I got a screen with a bunch of code.

It won't accept either of our car's vin's....'98 and an '04. I used to be able to look at different owner's manuals on-line....Now I'm not able to at all.

Re: (MadeInJapan)

ford has had NO positive effect or affect on volvo. (ukmatt brought this up)
i just got back from sweden where my personal friends are senior quality control supervisors running the test drive final and the paint shop final inspections. the paint is great, ford has shortened the test drive course (more problems will be shipped) they (friends) are pissed! they have been with the torslanda plant for 32 and 28 years respectively, we eat with the employees by the indoor pool above the plant. i do not want to hear from ANY volvo salesmen. i want to hear from customers who want to be heard by the employees of Volvo Torslanda.
i am pissed at ford.
by the way.
have any of you gotten extra phone calls asking you amorphous questions?
ford is selling all information about us to improve the lousy performance brought forward by ford family shty lordmanship. the family rides on our back.
