Nice V50! How long did it take for you to become accustomed to the clutch? I remember that Volvo clutches have quite a different feel than Japanese/ American clutches. It was only shifting from 1st into 2nd where I just couldn't get the timing right for some reason...

I have seen the new powershift transmissions in the showroom but have not driven one yet. From what I read it is very similar to the VW/Audi DSG system.
WRT clutches, I learnt to drive using a manual box (the norm in the UK) so wasn't a problem. The Volvo clutch is a little lighter than the Japanese clutch (i.e. relative to my MR2) but I am not sure if that is the age or the design.

Re: (kfckfc) The Transmissions are so Refined Now

You can Shift them like a Motorcycle - just back the Pressure Off some
& Quick Shift - Not ( Speed Shift ) .
That was For those having Shifting Issues :
Anyway - Did You Notice Paddle Shifter's on the Steering Columns
Oh, Yeah - Cough - Clear Throat - J-Leno would Yell - Oh Nothing Like Keeping Your Hands on the Steering Wheel for SAFETY !
Haaa Ha - Volvo is Getting with the Program - Slowly .
Well at Least the Dual Power-Shifter is a 6 Speed .
Do You have any - Fuel MPG - - Include the Fact that Your using Royal Gals. or Not ?
Thanks Dan

Didn't notice if the powershift had paddles on the steering column, I will have a look the next time I past by the showroom.
My 2.0d only does an average of 36 miles per gallon (4.5litres), mainly because I do a lot of urban driving. Even when I do get out on the open road I've a heavy right foot which doesn't help the economy either.
Keith

So Basically it's getting 30 Mpg US in the City , not to bad .
4.546 = Imperial Gal. = 1.2009 US Gal. to look at - Full Tank Results.
I Believe from Pictures and Reports that there are - NO Paddles.
So How Many Volvo's have You Owned over the Yrs.
Automatics should do More K/Liter - Hmmm , anyway Diesel's should also be good for what - 300,000 miles If Taken Good Care Of ?

This my first Volvo - the experience has been good so far ('touch wood'). The car is quite nippy for 136PS and the build feels solid. Dynaudio system is really good too although we we don't have Sirius (satelite radio) in the UK.
Heard that Diesels are more reliable, not sure if I'll keep the car long enough to rack-up 300,000 miles though.
How about yourself, what's your car biography?

Talking of economy, fuel is expensive here - cost me ~ £62 (£1.20/litre) to fill-up for this shot. How much is diesel and petrol in the US?

Re: (kfckfc) - Cost , Well It's some What Relative to Income Level's

Euro is worth more then the Dollar and the Sterling Dollar is Way more.
Diesel was $3.67 in March of 2008 - then it - Went Nuts like Up to
$ 5.35 in July .
Considering that All the Deisel Snow-Plows on the Whole East Coast North West Coast & the Montanna in the Whole of the US -were Off the Road a Month 1/2 Early due to a Early Spring !
Then all the School Buses were All Done In Early June 18th and Yet the Prices Sore - @ a Time When the Weather is Great Out side and Everyone Walks a lot more and Break-Out the Motorcycles.
( Which Get Three Times the National Average in MPG. ) - Some How the Fuel Goes Up a almost Two Bucks Per Gallon. !
They Claim More Demand ) Ha , They must think - We are Idiots !
( Screwed Big Time ) It-just Looks Like We are Paying - the Blunt End of the War . Plus Sending 755,000,000 Over Sea's to Pay for this
( Screwing ) - at this Time Diesel has Come down to $4.00 A Gal.
It Would Cost Us at This Time - $54.75- US Dollars to Fill Up on Diesel.
If You base this on Our Income Levels Compared to England , then We are Paying about the Same.
ps: I found I had to Turn the Center Speaker -Down on the Dynaudio system - or the Entire Car Vibrated ( Boom Bam Boom - Lots of Base )
If You Click on Our Names - most - Bio's Will Show Up .

Engtech,
I've always thought fuel was cheap in the US, guess I was sorely mistaken - seems you are taxed even more heavily than us.
Dynaudio does give a lot of bass which is surprising as it doesn't have a subwoofer. However the resultant sound is tighter and more natural.
You have quite an extensive bio, obviously been busy. P.S. My disclipine is in Mech Eng too, currently working in Maufacturing Engineering. Unfortunately in the UK engineers are not paid very much.

Volvocu,
You're right it is a MY08 but it was registered in August 2007. I think post September it was replaced by the R-design.

V50_T5,
Thanks for the comment, from your sig; your ride doesn't sound too bad either. 1.6D emblem is a nice touch!

Old.
My GrandFather set the Land Speed Record for the State of Illinois in 1919 with a Customized Four Barrel -on a Stuntz BearCat @ 121 MPH.
On a Dirt Road !
I Think England has more Taxes , on Income and other Items put You
Guys have a Far Better Health Care then We do.
Diesel's at $4.00 now If Volvo and Audi , VW bring the Diesels - I'm sure they will sell a lot of those Drivelines . VW has the Jetta a Little Small
asked Dealer and all sold - Waiting-Line to get One. ( 42 MPG )
