Yet another Group Buy: Hot side turbo piping for T5

EDIT(#2): I guess this 'GB' is moving a little faster than I anticipated. For those of you that haven't read the C30World thread yet the fabricator Hector posted on C30World:

Tomorrow ill have it up and ready to go. Will come back tomorrow with link so you can purchase.

Well sure enough Hector posted the item on his website today at a sale price of $195 (plus approx. $30 ground shipping domestic U.S.):

http://www.exhaustdepot.net/c30s40inhapi.html

He said he's leaving town this Friday and will leave the $195 + shipping price up for one week until next Friday 7/3, so that gives people some more time to buy, and he said he won't be processing any credit charges until after a returns so at the earliest Monday 7/6. I already purchased mine and my invoice says he typically needs a "1 to 2 week lead time" to fabricate, so realistically if you wait to order until next Friday, and then worst case 2 weeks after that, and then say another week for Ground shipping, nobody will be receiving them much before the last week in July, so I guess keep that in mind.

So looks like that's that! Looks like we're each on our own to purchase if you choose to before next Friday 7/6 at this price. The fastest GB in history!

Original post:

A cool guy who owns a relatively small fabrication shop in Florida appeared on C30World a few months back and he started fabricating some exhaust goodies for the C30 (he makes a mean looking DownPipe with high flow cat for a really reasonable price! To get an idea of his handywork check out this pic of the exhaust set up he did on a SRT8 Grand Cherokee http://c30world.com/forums/sho...nt=16! Sick!! )

He recently fabricated a hot side turbo piping out of larger diameter pipe that'll be powder-coated (and supplied with 2 silicon couplers and brackets) which would do away with the more narrow OEM pipe and about 16" of rubber hose (not great for dissipating heat of course). The fabricator fitted this on a T5 S40 actually because he couldn't track down a local C30, so I'd think should fit a V50 T5 as well?

A member on C30World installed the prototype on his C30 a few weeks ago and he said he measured an increase psi of 1 to 2 psi across the range. So therefore the piping could equate to a realized hp gain of 10 to 20 hp.

The MSRP on this is $225 plus about $30 Ground shipping within the domestic U.S. (obviously more if Int'l - the seller is willing to ship Int'l but you'd have to contact him for the additional price quote). If we get enough interest (around 20 buyers - we already have about 10 on C30World alone right now) I'm discussing with the fabricator to sell these for about $200 each total - as pointed out on C30World definitely great bang for the buck for a potential 20 hp increase! Install is very DIY as long as you can put the front on a couple jack stands or a ramps (if you have access to a lift obviously you're golden).

Posting pics on SS is too much hassle for me, so see this thread on C30World for pics and all the info you should need. Please post on this thread if you're committed and I'll add your name to the C30World thread. Thanks!

Is this the DP you're referring to? This is Hector's DP (but again this GB is for the turbo piping - not his DP) In what way does it look 'different'?

hmm not bad at all. Increase 1-2 psi for 1/4" diameter increase? Let me think and research about it a bit.

This does look to be interesting. However, money is tight right now, too many group buys going on right now, lol. I haven't read the whole 6 pages yet of the linked thread but if there has been significant gains and no issues I might have to look into this in the future.

+1 i need to see a little bit more data/numbers
Re: Yet another Group Buy: Hot side turbo piping for T5 (raoulduke)

Ya definitely interested but i need confirmation that it will fit s40 awd
I'm having deja vu....

Hasn't this been brought up before here?
Do want... also interested to hear about AWD specific fitment.

Is this the pipe that goes from the drivers side of the intercooler, underneath the engine by the oil pan and connects to the turbo??

Two more threads about this from C30world:

Makes me feel better that I didn't just dream I had heard of this before....
no u weren't deaming lol i brought this up before we came to the conclusion that this intercooler piping should be made of better material (i.e High Grade Aluminum than heavy generic steel that may corrode over time) But the idea is a very good one and when perfected will be a good reliable hp increase.

NOT A DP
I am much more interested in this than the front strut bar GB.

Thanks for posting the pics. Where did you find that's it's only a 1/4" diameter difference from stock? Just looking at the side-by-side it sure looks bigger than that to me!

What would be any restriction in an AWD S40 vs. FWD? Aren't the frontend transaxles, etc. the same in the AWD as the FWD? My understanding is this pipe runs underneath the engine and any drivetrain parts (see these pics: http://c30world.com/forums/sho...nt=13)

If there's still a concern I can ask the fabricator to be sure.

Apparently going high-grade aluminum would increase the fabricators fixed costs significantly, so we wouldn't be able to get this as a 'relatively inexpensive' mod, which is definitely a big part of the draw for me. Plus as stated above and shown in the pic above they will come supplied powder-coated so that should address any 'corroding over time' (at least during our lifetimes! - those pipes will outlast you and I before they corrode!
)

I want one. Don't really care about the price...
Re: Yet another Group Buy: Hot side turbo piping for T5 (S40Racer)

See my update ('Edit') to this GB in the first post above.
Re: Yet another Group Buy: Hot side turbo piping for T5 (raoulduke)

Are there ones already made or are these made to order? If they are made to order and it will be a week or two before it is done I'd rather wait for it to be made before shelling out $225. I don't want to have to wait after paying, especially if there are a bunch of people purchasing them which would extend the manufacturing/processing time.
