Local dealer says no chance on an 04, but yes to an 05!!?? The local stereo store says they can hook one up playing through my standard radio, but signal may not be perfect due to ""modulation from radio channel??" Suggestions......... please

You have two choices: a sat receiver with a direct connection to the HU using an adapter like the iMIV (or MII if you do not ever want to hook up an iPod) or a sat radio with an FM modulator. The former will have the best sound (cd quality), the latter is the least expensive route.

The HU-650's (most of '05 and beyond) have a discrete SAT channel through which the oem sat radio can be controlled by the HU. This is not possible with the iMIV or an FM modulator--the sat radio receiver/controller must be mounted or stashed near you.
