I got a 99 s70 t5 that I recently upgraded with the IPD chip, and soon to come the ipd cat back exhaust. Very pleased with the chip tuning by the way, very smooth, fast, and yet still have my tires. But my question is does anyone have any recommendations of updgrading my hi/low beam lights and fog lights to xenon status. I have some "super white" bulbs in the low beams, but the lenses suck and I don't think the bulbs are that great. I've emailed PIAA but they say they can't help. Any tips or recommendations? Thanks

well depending on how clean your headlight housings are depends alot on light output! for example if your lenses have alot of pit marks from road sand or rocks etc.. the light will be hamperd, you probobly know that, but the only other option other than getting new head lights would be to buy a hid kit, they usally pop right into the same slots that your normal bulbs do but insted of puting out the light of a normal bulb it puts out a high intensity discharged beam powered by its own power sorce run off your battery...

I don't have them myself, but i hear that the E-code lenses will do wonders for your existing bulbs. And if you still want HID, after that, it will be even brighter!

There are HID upgrade kits that use your housing, or the euro housing with more aggressive optics, but I'd be really surprised if they were legal for street use. That's not to say they might not be, or you couldn't get away with it if that's what you chose to do, but there's a fair warning for you.
I know Sylvania makes an auxillary HID setup, that maybe you could mount as foglights or something. You'd have to check with them, but they're listed in their Automotive Lighting section of sylvania.com .
Beyond that, Volvo never made HIDs for that car, so there's no OEM solution for you other than the more aggressive Ecode (European Spec) headlight, and even their legality on the street is questionable.

Like George said by going E-Code lenses and HID conversion, you might run into legality issues unless your car is intend for off-road use. But chances are, you won't get caught unless you are too obnoxious and don't adjust the headlight's aim down a bit.
I have done both the E-Code and the HID upgrade..and actually did the HID first before the E-code. The cheapo 5500K HID kit I got was pretty reasonable already, it did its job just fine. I just wanted try out the e-code and see if that'd make any difference since I was able to get a brand new pair from Borton dirty cheap.
The result was very surprising. Some might tell you by doing e-code with HID it would make a day and night difference, and some might say the opposite. It's actually not a dramatic difference, but by using the E-code lenses, the HID setup will emit more glare to the top. Kinda hard to explain, you would have to see it in person to know what I mean.
It is only worth it if you are also going for the "euro look". It does shine better because the beam pattern emits more glare....which also means it's more annoying for the incoming traffic. You would really have to adjust them down quite a bit.
The e-codes are a bit more..."see through", but don't expect it would look an audi's lenses.
All in all, it's only worth it if you do need that or you really dig the look.

By going e-code, you will not have those two DOT blobs on the road but a nice even spread of light with a nice sharp cutoff. I'm currently using E-codes with the standard halogen bulbs (one of my HID ballasts is defective.) and the difference is clear.

Re: (mike_c70)

I think they used to sell them for $99 or something like that for each side. Borton has stopped carrying them for now b/c the supplier had hard time importing them to the States, hint: E-code, not DOT.
I don't know when they will be carrying them again. I'm just happy I still have mine while I wait for the MY2003 ones to show up. God knows when that will be. I wonder if C70SPEED ever got his. Never saw him posted about it after that day.....

I too really want to see the '03 C70 setup in action. My low beams are disappointing to say the least.
I'd love to find a setup similar to my former S4's HIDs, but getting an autoleveling true HID setup is probably to costly to justify even for fun, unless there is an inexpensive way to integrate a wrecked Audi or MB into a Volvo headlamp case.

Given that the '03 headlights are clear, it'll probably be easier to retro projectors into the housing that previously. Hmm... Q45 lenses perhaps?

Re: (gte845u)

I've got the e-code lenses on my '98 V70R and love them. With the up-rated wattage bulbs, the light really reaches down the road, extremely well with the high beams. Down adjustments of the low beams are advised to reduce the on-coming traffic annoyance/flashes.
Be advised, the State of Virginia is cracking down on the aftermarket bulbs. My brother's vehicle was failed during State Inspection for the upgraded white bulbs. He replaced them with stock and was passed.
Try: Martin Motorsports, Alexandria, VA. 703/823.9735 or give Patrick MacNeal a call at Marten Volvo, Parts Dept., 800/424.3652.
Tell them "GRIFF" sent you. They are great people......
