Great if they indeed build it using the tri-turbo 450HP engine. And it could be built into S90/V90 and S60/V60 Polestar, which will be much hotter than a fast SUV.

The tri-turbo 450HP engine have been presented before as some laboratory case study.

But the answer to the question in the title of the article is NO. Volvo already stated XC90 Polestar will get an engine power level between T6 and T8.

When they talked about the XC90 Polestar getting engine power somewhere in between the T6 and the T8 we cant know for sure if they mean the REAL XC90 Polestar (like the S60 Polestar) or the T6 with Polestar tuning. To explain what I mean to American readers, the S60 R-Design that you buy in the US is a T6 with Polestar tuning. In Europe the R-Design is always nothing but a styling kit, and if you want the 320 hp you need to get a Polestar tuning kit. The 350 hp figure discussed might well be the tuning kit hp, and the next gen of true Polestar cars could possibly get even more than that (like the article says).

They were clear that if they did an full on XC90 P*, not an Optimized one, it would have power in between the T6 and T8 and be focused on handling. Optimized P*'s don't have any handling mods. If this is how it plays out, the car would be a waste of time. It wouldn't have the power to compete with the SUV "big boys" and wouldn't have the handling to compete with sports cars, so it really serves no market. Performance SUV's are all a waste of time anyway, unless you have the center of gravity of the Model X. You can't beat physics.

Power between T6 and T8 is for the real/full Polestar. Of course we don't have a clue how such a Polstar XC90 will be, because we don't have a clue of what capabilities the SPA-platform has in terms of 'performance' handling and so on.

The chip tuning-type Polestar after market products are also expected to come avaiable for XC90. That will likely to be individual upgrades for all engines incl. diesel and hybrid.

I think the platform capabilities are irrelevant in this case as the chassis limits will never be reached in a ~2.5 ton SUV that sits so high. When you are talking about the S90/S60/V60 then the platform capabilities matter. The XC90 is limited by its center of gravity. Changing the suspension isn't going to overcome that. I don't know if they use this saying there, but it's like "putting lipstick on a pig". They best you can hope for is a pretty good handling XC90 but not a Performance vehicle.

350 hp plus 87 hp = 437 hp. Voila'! The Polestar T8! Just like the Polestar V60 PHEV and the tuned Mercedes S500E that are already available.

Volvo XC90 gets Polestar tuning with 450 hp
Sales of the XC90 shows that customers do not hesitate to choose the most well equipped - and expensive - versions. Why not a Polestar model too?

During the six months, the air buzzed by persistent rumors about an upcoming, sporty Volvo XC90 Polestar. This sport model would then have a peak power that is above T8 Twin Engine with a system output of 400 hp.
Recent site who think they know it will be a Volvo XC90 Polestar, the site is "The Truth About Cars". They argue that Volvo chooses its already showed "High Performance Drive-E Powertrain Concept" engine using electric turbocharger provides full 450 hp from 2.0 liters engine capacity.
For the electric turbocharger to get enough power it uses an electrical system by 48 volts, instead of today's traditional 12V systems. With 48 volts, it is relatively easy to add an electric motor to create a lightweight hybrid. It remains to see what happens in this direction, Volvo Cars tiger wall and would not confirm or deny any rumors.

Polestar owned since one month to one hundred percent of Volvo Cars. If there comes a 450 bhp Polestar version, what name will it then? T9 or T10?
