We picked up our 2007 XC70 on Sunday and really love it. In fact, we had an '04 XC90 for 2 1/2 years that we traded for this car and so far we don't miss it at all! Anyway, the XC90 had power retractable side mirrors - the XC70 des not. But, the brochure I have for the 2006 XC70 shows the mirror retractor button on the center console in one photo. Is this a feature that was present on pre-2007 XC70s and done away with this year? Or was that a bogus picture in the brochure...?

Re: XC70 - Discontinued Feature for '07? (Freeworld)

No, but I got a nice deal on the XC90 I traded in! Had it for sale for two months on multiple venues and I got ZERO offers - not even low ball attempts. People don't seem to be in the market for used SUVs that get 17MPG out here in the land of obnoxiously-priced gasoline.

And that's exactly what I did. A purchase would have INCREASED my monthly payment by $120, a 3-yr lease dropped it by $110. I'm not in love with leasing, but pork & beans for dinner every night isn't appealing, either! Oh well, I got the car I wanted at an affordable price.

I hear the XC70 has good lease incentives from Volvo financing, so I hope that helped.

Re: XC70 - Discontinued Feature for '07? (W6JHB)

Hi Jim,
Glad you like the XC70. After an enjoyable year with ours I think you will continue to enjoy it.
From my reading the retractable mirrors are very rare in the US. There is no mention of them in my US '05 brochure. The '07 (I think) MY brochure that I picked up at the Factory Delivery Center in June shows them as standard in the "Momentum" equipment level and above.
I think Volvo's marketing folks think of the US as the wide open spaces and Europe is the land of tight parking. While this may be true in some places I was very surprised to see how much open space there is in much of Europe. And Volvo's marketing group didn't see how we underbuilt our garage 20 years ago because we owned a Scirocco and a Rabbit when we built our house!
BTW, the garage is the reason we sold the wife's Highlander and bought a V50 T5 AWD (that arrived yesterday -- yea!!! ) It is also the reason I would have liked retractable mirrors on both cars.
73,
Jack

I helped you the day you stopped by Lawrence Volvo when Alan was off.
To answer your question about the power folding outside mirrors on the 2006 XC70: No it was not a bogus photo... just a very limited option on 2006 XC70 wagons. The power folding mirrors were only available on the 2006 Volvo XC70 Ocean Race models. Do you remember the blue XC70 on the showroom floor? It is an 2006 Ocean Race XC70 with the power folding mirrors. For the 2007 Model Year there are no Ocean Race Edition XC70's nor is there an option for an Xc70 with power folding mirrors.
Thanks again. Enjoy your XC70.
William

You should try contacting Volvo directly. My information shows that the power folding mirrors is still vailable as a euro option. If your dealer is proficient at digging, you should be able to find it (I did for my V70R) The kit that is shown for chassis W0310 and higher is 30716 660-3 , you will also need a new switch pannel and the software download to do this. It's just a matter of finding a cooperative dealer.

Re: XC70 - Discontinued Feature for '07? (William)

Hi William! Yes, I remember you, and I think we've seen you since then on some of our recent visits to the dealership. I sure was tempted to go for that ORE on the floor, but just couldn't do it - a few more installed options and I probably would have. Turns out that our XC70 fits in the garage next to the wife's S60 pretty well and we are living without the folding mirrors quite nicely.
If anyone back in the marketing / design group at Volvo is listening to the forum, it sure would be nice if it was made an option on all future models. Not everyone wants them, but for those who do, then let the consumer get out his checkbook!
Electrically folding outside mirrors (with puddle lights) can be added to your '01 and later V70/XC70 after delivery. This is a Genuine Volvo accessory.
We have the mid-2004 and newer kits in stock at $284.52 for both mirrors (Volvo's suggested list price is $334.73).
As a Volvo accessory, this kit comes with instructions if you feel like changing the mirror assemblies yourself. After installattion, you'll need to take your Volvo to your favorite dealership for a software download (parts & labor) which will activate this feature on your car.
You'll also need one blank spot for the switch on your center console. If you don't have a blank spot - a new 7-switch panel (plus blanks) is small extra money.
This feature has been discussed on the R Forum quite a bit.
Also note that we have the mid-2004 and newer chrome mirror caps available on eBay.
I hope that I've answered your question.
John Sharisky

I'm interested in doing this with our V70 ('04 2.5T) but am hesitant, as I"m afraid that after getting everything installed, the dealer is going to claim that there is no such download. (Remember, I'm in Tennessee...enough said). Can someone post the software download part number? This way I can check with the dealer before hand.

Re: XC70 - Discontinued Feature for '07? (GrecianVolvo)

The idea of folding mirrors get's nicer all the time in this country. As houses get newer (and costs are cut), garages get smaller (thus the proliferation of 3 car garages these days). My last 30 yo house had a 2 car garage that could fit 2 cars side by side with both sets of doors open wide, and room at the front for all kinds of storage and shelves. Today my 2 car garage fits two cars and NOTHING else, and you're lucky you can open the doors at all.
Speaking of features, there was a discussion here earlier about the auto-locking function and the need to get a software download (that many dealers are clueless about ). We just got an '07 XC70 and that feature is now user selectable with the lock button -- yeah Volvo!
