Totally unsurprising comment:
"Unlike the agile European-spec XC60 we'd driven previously, this U.S.-market model drew criticism for its numb steering and marshmallow-grade suspension tuning. "If you really enjoy driving," the most damning assessment reads, "you'll be disappointed." "
Anyone in NA tried to order the Euro-spec suspension & steering?
Would the Chinese permit such a thing? (Not that it would matter if it comes to that...)

I suspect this has to do with the low margin on U.S. bound cars. I would love to be proven wrong, however. Even a simple thing like a factory roof rail delete option would make it considerably more likely for me to go OSD. So, except for the slightly added flexibility inherent in the OSD options, I don't see it as being very useful as a work-around to U.S. specifications.
Someone needs to go into the business of Volvo US->Euro conversions...

Quote, originally posted by rfkuehn »

Oh yes, VCNA. Autoblog covers the Edmunds comparison:
Edmunds praises Volvo XC60, pans Cadillac SRX in new entry-lux CUV comparo
http://www.autoblog.com/2009/0...aises/
If VCNA sees enough of this, will they make the Euro-spec suspension tuning available in the USA? Go Volvo! The GLK looks plan old stupid and it serves MB right for withholding the C-class wagon from the US market, now that car is a total winner.

Yes, but...
I really don't want the cosmetics. None of it. Just the under-the-surface stuff - suspension & steering.
That said... are the R-Design specs the same in Europe & USA? How does the R-Design spec compare to std Europe-spec? (Safe bet that is tighter than std USA...!)

as a companion piece, I saw this video at CNET today -- talk about not liking the Nav system --I've never seen a mainstream video from CNET like this....Volvo really needs to lose the Nav
http://reviews.cnet.com/suv/20...l;txt
But the way the dash is designed, its not an easy fix. Isn't the screen to far away to be used as a touch-screen?

It's far better than a touch screen or another controller off the wheel. I've had (and have) both.
But the Nav system itself is pretty basic.

Re: (Needsdecaf)

I am fine with the steering wheel controls too. It's just that I don't like where the nav screen is on the XC60. I much prefer the setup on my S60, where it pops out of the top of the dash and I don't have to look down (ie. away from the windshield) to see the nav. I can actually watch the road and the nav screen at the same time.
Who knows, maybe you can do this on the XC60 too. It's just that when I was in an XC60 the nav screen seemed too low, but maybe you get used to it.
