The Volvo XC60 has been voted Best Medium Crossover in the UK.

The UK Car of the Year awards are voted on by a panel of 27 automotive journalists from around the UK. It's the fifth year for the awards, which saw a handful of new categories added this year.

The XC60 topped the medium crossover class, with Judge Matt Robinson saying "Volvo shrinks the class-leading XC90 seven-seat SUV into the five-seat XC60 and comes up with another winner."

Judges noted the interior quality of the XC60, saying it matched up with more premium crossovers. Top Sharpe called it "the most stylish creation to date from the Swedish brand."

Volvo Car UK Managing Director Jon Wakefield said that "winning an award decided by some of the automotive world’s toughest judges is something to be extremely proud of."

The XC60 was launched last summer and offers a choice of powertrains, Volvo's advanced safety systems and semi-autonomous Pilot Assist technology.

The XC60 is now eligible for the overall UK Car of the Year award, which will be given out February 23rd.
