We finally have our new car home! Yay! The 80+ miles home from the dealership gave me a chance to get a feel for somethings about it:
  • Lots of power (but we already knew that.)
  • Pilot Assist is sweet! It took a little getting used to but it seemed to follow the road very well, with the exception of exits in the middle of curves.
  • Adaptive cruise control + B mode works really well. B mode seemed to make a major difference over Drive without using cruise control but with it the regen kicked in all the time. I may not have taken my hands off the steering wheel but my foot was just sort of sitting there ready to hit either the brakes or the accelerator, but not pressing on either.
  • The original order confirmation called for Pirelli Verde All Season tires. What's on it are Scorpion Zero All Season. Can anyone comment on the differences?
  • It's hard to keep it at 25mph in the city, it just wants to go 30 (which would be a bad idea around here.)
  • During our drive it felt lighter than the V70 despite weighing a *lot* more. Probably just the steering weight and accelerator feel since we weren't pushing it around corners where actual mass/weight would be most visible. It's odd, the V70 just felt more substantial in some way.
  • The set of supplemental manuals we got were substantially thicker than the entire manual for the V70.
  • Ice White is beautiful, as is the blonde interior.
  • Having the dark dashboard is very nice. The V70's was beige and caused annoying reflections on the inside of the window.
  • Heads up is great. More time to spend looking for idiots and deer and less on the speed limit.

I had the scorpions on my last car and loved them. You'll enjoy that tire for sure.

Congrats!

One fun thing happened at the dealership in and amongst nearly 3 hours of drudgery. We traded in our V70 and we included the manuals. Our salesman found his old business cards in there from when he sold us the car in March of 2001. Different dealership entirely.

Other thoughts that I was too tired to remember yesterday:
  • The kick to open/close feature on this car has worked for me every time. I'd tried it on two of the cars that I test drove and it didn't work once for me, though a salesman got it to work after some trial and (mostly) error.
  • There are a ton of things to set up to personalize it and the buying experience took so long that we barely scratched the surface yesterday.
  • The climate control system was remarkably easy to use and effective. I like the knobs used to change the airflow at individual vents - much nicer than the wheels used in the V70.
  • It doesn't telegraph rough road as badly as the V70 (which didn't do it as badly as anything else we've owned.)
  • I got the chance to really look at some other colors during down times and I love our choice, but the Osmium Gray and Fusion Red were also very eye catching. The gray looked elegant and premium - I can imagine it on a Rolls or something like that - while the red looked fun. I hadn't really had a chance to check them out before since I was always either there after dark or on a very tight schedule.
  • I wish that the main Sensus screen was more customizable. For us the phone and media tiles are useless so if we could replace them with additional function tiles the whole thing would be easier to use.
  • The whole double-tap-to-get-into-gear thing took a couple of tries to remember but is still very simple and, oh I don't know, quirky enough to be fitting for a slightly quirky car.
  • I thought the crystal shifter would be a little ostentatious but it's not and the shape/size feels good in my hand.
  • The camera views are much better than I've had on any of the cars that I've rented over the years - very bright and clear.
  • The Trip Statistics app is way too busy - the bar graph is pretty useless while driving - but the energy flow diagram is cool, though just in a geeky sort of way.
  • Hill Start Assist is nice. For part of our trip back we went through downtown Tacoma and up 11th (for anyone who knows the area.) For whatever reason I missed two of the lights and not having to worry about rolling back while moving from the brake to accelerator was appreciated.
  • Pilot Assist did a much better job on curves than I had expected from other commentators.
  • We're going to miss the bag hooks in the flip-up cargo divider of the V70. We picked up an organizer that will help, but it's not quite the same.
  • It felt good to finally make use of the charging station that we had installed. Worked like a charm.
  • Having a map that I can see without reading glasses is very nice. I haven't tried using navigation, yet.

First off, congrats, second:

I hear ya, and before my 2020 XC60, I had been buying used cars, for most of my life, and I just don't have the patience to sit in a dealership for hours on end, which is why I went through Leashackr and found a broker for the lease on my XC60.

Now that I've done that, for both me and my mother, and had them both delivered to our doors, and it not only saved me a ton of time, but also money, (a lot of it), I can't see me ever going to a dealership to buy, ever again.

Congratulations on your T8. I hope you enjoy yours at least half as much as I enjoy mine.
