I don't have time to translate the whole piece, but the CEO confirms (95% chance) that the xc50 will be build in Ghent. So the model is coming!!!!!! http://********************/smile/emthup.gif

Volvo Gent gaat heel waarschijnlijk nieuw model bouwen.

Re: XC50 (allstars)

allstar.........

Thanks for the info...unfortunately.....the article does not indicate that it will be available for the US market...my guess is probably not in the beginning!
IF....they would bring it here...with maybe a hybrid or diesel engine http://********************/smile/emthup.gif http://********************/smile/emthup.gif THEN we would have something to get excited about!

Re: XC50 (universityvolvoOSD)

Bob,

The Dutch Newspaper Telegraaf (http://autotelegraaf.nl/vanonzeredactie/?id=41266 ) (dated May 17, 06) mentions in an article about the XC 50 that it is based on the EUCD platform (same platform as for the new S80) which will be used for the future S60 and V70, next generation Landrover Freelander and next generation European Ford Mondeo too. Also it is mentioned that the XC 50 is called a niche market model, so all reasons to assume the XC50 will come to the US http://********************/smile/emthup.gif .

TonyJ.....

It would be nice if Volvo would bring the XC50 here. They have a full model makeover/redesign in place for the next few years, starting with the new C70...and including the new C30. Based on that timeline.....I would guess we might see the XC50 sometime in 2009? By then....they will have to have a hybrid/deisel engine option in place...Just my opinion.

Re: XC50 (universityvolvoOSD)

On the regional broadcast AVS, the CEO Ghent mentioned it was sure that they can build a new model. On the question which one, he didn't say anything. But it's a more important model because it's build on a new platform (for Ghent): so they 'll receive more future models (because the assembly line is undergoing changes).

But! One car is leaving Ghent. Probably the next V70 (going to Sweden)!

Bob,

It would be so cool if Volvo would bring the C30 here. I just saw the ad for the new Toyota sedan (the one with the terantula that gets squashed and is sucked into the gas tank!) Talk about thinking 'outside the box'!! I hope that the designers at Volvo have the guts to come up with a real 'kick ass' program for the C30 that will finally make buyers pay attention to Volvo.

I sure hope that some of the Volvo people read these colums and understand our passion for Volvo.

Newie...

I think "some" of the Volvo folks do read our posts....now whether they are the real decision makers or not??? I don't know.
But they know "we" (meaning SS) are here and they know that potential and existing Volvo customers exchange information via Swedespeed. How much "REAL" influence we have is hard to measure...probably not much...but the folks at Ford do know that Volvo is their "horse"" for the moment!....So I don't think they are going to rock teh boat too much. IMO...the C30 will be a nice entry level Volvo. How much "kick ass" it will have???......right now it's anybody's guess!

C30 is probable

What do you mean "probable"

The C30 is for sure.

? is will there be a performance variant and or will it offer AWD, or is that what you were getting at

Yes, there will be a C30. How it will be is up in the air.

Timing for the XC50?

Do you know if it is its "own" vehicle (relatively speaking, i.e. XC90, X3, RDX) or just a V50 with cladding & extra clearance (XC70)?

The new XC50 i based on the EUCD-plattform and not on the C1-plattform like todays V50. So its gone be a "pure" XC like the XC90.

I hope McD is right... but if its going to just be a V50 on steriods (i.e. XC70), then what's taking so long?

Today I came across this:
http://www.volvospy.com/w-agor...30744

Second post says there may be an XC50 in future. Anyone better informed could confirm?

I am saving up for an XC60 at the moment, but would reconsider it, if there was XC50 coming and wait a little longer......

Listen to McD. 'Nough said.

Re: XC50 (pjf)

Volvo is primarily a family transportation company.
Since families view SUV's as their preferred mode of conveyance, it is best to offer as many choices there as possible.
I think the XC30 is a waste of resources, but an XC50, XC60 and XC90 would offer small, medium and large options.
Plus, the XC70 has a devoted following.
