I recently changed all four discs and pads on my 99 XC. Brambo's in front and zimmerman's in rear with ceramic pads in front and organic in rear...well after only 2500 kms I started getting chatter in the steering. Went back to supplier, he gave me two new Brambo's...2500 to 3000 kms later, same problem...Went to Volvo to find out there is no problem with calipers. So as of tomorrow I will return original volvo pads. Even the dust problem is better than chattering. Anyone else had similar problems?
Roncop

Re: XC 70 brake problems (roncop)

Silly question here. Did you scuff (very slighty with 400-1000? grit nothing major) up the NEW rotors before you put them on with the pads? I scuff the pads as well very little with teh same 400 grit or 1000?. Or did you rely on the fact that they were new and did nothing. I assume you DID hit them (the rotors) with brake clean or some other gum cutter? to get OFF the shipping anti rust gooo? Silly but very important two things that need to be done to get a good bed in of new pads to rotor face for long quiet life. I run Ceramic on both the 744 and the 965 and have never had one peep out of them even with the old front rotors left on once on the 744. Also I try to make a few very low speed easy stops around the block for ten mins. Then all should be right and has. Also I am not sure that you might not be causeing troubel with Ceramic fronts and Organic rears as well. Fricton and working heat temps are totally different. Hense one is slower then the other to work at full power from front to rear. Leading to the fronts maybe to chatter from either over working or under working heat range.
