Hi everyone,
I've spent a few months lurking on this forum and tracking online ads for V70Rs with my little spreadsheet I alluded to when I introduced myself a while back. I'm getting very close to the point where I'm ready to pull the trigger and purchase a replacement for my quickly-aging '87 BMW 528e.
I've fallen in love with Magic Blue and the Nordkap interior and have decided that is the #1 color combo out there. . . my apologies to you Passion/Nordkap, Passion/Atacama, and Ti/Atacama owners that think otherwise.
I'm looking for an '05+ Magic/Nordkap V70R with the manual transmission. I would prefer less than 50,000 miles but will consider higher mileage if the service history is good. I am not opposed to working on the car myself, so the original/VIP warranty needn't be still in place, although I am perfectly willing to pay more for a car that still has it. I am also not opposed to driving any distance for the right car.
Other color combos I'm somewhat interested in are Magic/Atacama, Ti/Nordkap, and Electric/Nordkap, in that order. I've checked Craigslist, Autotrader, and Cars.com, so I know what is currently out there for sale; I'm trying to find someone on this forum that may be considering a sale but just needs a willing buyer to push him/her into actually doing it.
Any willing sellers are welcome to e-mail, IM, or just reply to this post.
Thank you very much in advance, and I hope to be an R owner soon!

You may want to talk with forum member JRL he may be able to help you with your search. He seems to be a very resourceful fellow when it comes to used Volvo purchases.
******EDIT******** Never mind I see in another post that you have already met!

Despite my mileage criterion, I think a good MT VR can be had for the upper teens. I am not opposed to going into the low- to mid-20s, but I really don't think that should be necessary for a 45k - 50k mile VR, based on what's been out there for sale recently.
However, I am open to someone's explanation of why their VR is worth more than that.
A CPO'ed / VIP'ed R is a different story. . .

Re: (EuroShifty)

I have an immaculate 2005 V70 R Magic blue/gobi, 6 Spd manual, 3rd row seat, high quality tint, 3M paint protectant up front/on the bumper, and on the door handles, volvo bluetooth, NAVIGATION, park assist, heated seats, roof, boosters, iPod connector, premium audio, and 53k. I work for a dealership so I had no need for VIP or CPO, but this one is in fine condition w/newer tires, rear pads, synthetic oil changes.

This tells me that they MAY (key word capitalized for emphasis) be overpriced.
There are currently about 10 VRs advertised nationally for sale online in the entire country that are for sale for $25k or more, and all of them but one have less than 40k miles (the other one has only 44k). Three have been for sale for at least January, and four have been for sale since some time in March. This could indicate that you better have a SH*T HOT VR if yours has over 45k and you want more than $25k for it.
In the $20k - $25k range, there are currently 17 listed for sale online, and the mileage ranges from 11k to 83k miles. There are 8 different color combinations and quite a few that look like they may be CPOed. Five have been for sale since at least January, five since February, and two since March. The last five were obviously listed this month. This tells me that a large sum of people (and dealerships) think their VR is worth somewhere in this range.
There are 10 from $17k to $20k with mileage ranging from 46k to 83k miles. Five have been for sale since at least January, one since February, one since March, and three newly listed this month.
This means that, in the $17k+ price range, an average of 35% have been for sale for at least 90 days and 27% for 60 - 90 days, which means you have a better chance than not of taking 2 or more months to sell your VR unless the price is right from the start.
While I don't doubt that many of those advertised online are sub-par in quality / service history, I suspect most are worth a second look and are just waiting on the right owner to find them. Of the 37 aforementioned VRs, there are only three that fit my criteria. The rest fall outside the box due to color combo, transmission, or mileage.
I understand that every owner here is proud of what they own, and I know JRL has preached quite a few times about how used car prices are going up. But, until someone gives me some more input and shows me what else out there has recently sold and for how much, I will continue to believe that a good VR with 45,000 miles and a MT is worth $20k, give or take a few grand.
Magoon, I know you are a long-respected member of this forum, and I don't mean to come across snooty, sarcastic, know-it-all, or offensive with what I'm about to say, but I would really, truly, honestly like to hear what your opinion is of the current VR market in general; what's currently for sale out there; and, most importantly, what you think a VR that fits my criteria SHOULD be priced and why. I am very new to this forum, Rs, and Volvos in general, and I honestly want to be properly educated by all of the knowledgeable members on this forum.
I'm not trying to start an argument, but I WOULD like to have some open discussion about what has actually sold, out there, and what kind of pricing was involved.
I'll get off my soap box now and let you all flame me, ban me, or educate me. Whichever you see fit.
LIVE, LIVE, LIVE, LIVE. . . (a reference to Gladiator)

Shouldn't it be in Wanted forum, not in For Sale?

Therefore, it is not easy to comparison shop unless you are willing to compromise your choice. You can quote auction price or NADA or whatever else you want but you will be hard pressed to find what you are looking for. Therefore, those guides don't mean much.
