Hi All!
Fantastic forum! My first post on Swedespeed!
I've done plenty of searches on this subject, and apologies for bringing it up again! I've got an UK 2003 S60R with 80k miles on the clock. Fantastic car, definitely the best of all the Volvo's i've owned in the past...
However...the car suffers from the dreaded side-hop (moreso in Comfort, some in Sport, not much in Advanced). I've tried to put up with it since i've had the car (6 months), but I've had enough want to try to get it sorted/reduced. I've had it aligned by Volvo about 6 months ago so that rear toe is as close to 0 as possible (MRG in Chippenham - fantastic dealership!), but it didn't make much difference, unless it got knocked out again due to loose bolts etc? I'm due a service soon, so will check alignment again.
I've ordered Powerflex bushes to replace most of the rear bushes in the hope that this would help. I shall get them done at the next service.
I also want to try disconnecting the rear accelerometer...Where exactly is it located in the boot? Can someone post up a pic, please? Would disconnecting it have any negative affect on the health of the car? I don't mind if it stiffens things up a bit! Would I loose all 4C functionality?
I can't believe Volvo released this car without rectifying this issue!!! Argh, makes me when I think about it...
Thanks in advance!
Muhammad
Re: Wretched Side Hop! (afzalmj)

This is what worked for me (and others on the board):
1. TME springs
2. ipd rear sway bar
3. Lose the PZeros (if they're still on your car)
Welcome to R ownership (and the forum)!
-Eric

I believe you mean TME springs and IPD swaybars (track spec of course).

Some people replace the original rubber with the same thing. It's not like you can't buy replacement PZeros for the R. Just sayin'
-Eric

Re: (Sue Esponte)

1. Get a SUM recalibration and/or SUM software update since you are a 2003 (early version) R car.
2. Some tires are notorious to side hop. My theory is the harder the sidewall is, the worse it is...
3. Alignment too - you did that already.
Extras: Lowering Springs, Sways. Both cost $$. Do the first one and report back.

Had the SUM recalibrated & upgraded to latest S/W last time I was at the dealer. MRG are very good and let me in the workshop. My angle gear need changing last time and I was there every step of the way!
Interesting comment about drop-links: I checked them when the car was on the ramp and they looked ok (no play etc). But will definitely change them along with sway bar....
