Last wednesday I took my mothers '04 S40 LSE into the dealer to have the turbocharger inspected as I suspected it was making a loud metalic clatter when cold. The dealer provided an '05 S60 T5 as a loaner car. My mother fell in love with the additional space and more mature feeling the S60 provided. She then went back to the dealer herself to look at a Volvo certif. PreOwned '04 S80 2.9, test drove it and brought it home friday night for a long weekend test drive. I come home to visit saturday morning, (yesterday) shocked to find this (OMG Beautiful) S80 in the garage sitting pretty next to my dads moose.
Now, I've always heard that the S80's were notorious for transmission problems. But, after all of the low quality issues that we have encountered on the S40 LSE in 45K... Im pretty sure this S80 will be a great car. What other problems should I expect to encounter with an S80? I have never really looked at the S80's before as I was never interested in them for myself. But I must say, it is breath-takingly beautiful. It drives like a sweet dream. It's far under-estimated.
The stats on the car are: '04 S80 2.9 27K miles. One owner. $22,500 Every service maintenance interval in the service book has been stamped by the dealer on time. Looks as if the only option I can point out right now is the auto-dimming mirror. So it's pretty base. Everything works as far as I have noticed. Keep me posted on what to look out for.
