I know the truck division and the car division are separate so it probably does not mean anything. On the other hand, Ford assembles a few models in India too so who knows?
http://www.volvo.com/trucks/india-market/en-in/

I was a SAAB man for years until GM ruined them. Then I jumped the fence to Volvo and have been happy since. Maybe if they took some manufacturing to Japan I could possibly live with it - maybe, I'd have to see. But elsewhere, I don't know- probably not. It would be a sad day.
Depending on where they took the plants, I may jump ship.

Yeah, you are right. I realize some parts of most vehicles are made all over the world. Guess I mean if most of the manufacturing and/or assembly is moved out of Sweden then It wouldn't quite be the same for me. It would lose that European feel. Just my opinion.

The point is : who makes a decision on design, safety, motor aso...
Example : Japanese cars are not so bad : many design studios are in foreign countries, not Japan..
Design of XC90 is british (Peter Horbury) and approved by swedish people.
Should the car be builded in Ford factories dont bother me if the SPIRIT remain swedish..
( A Korean SUV rebadged Ford or Chevrolet or... Volvo dont inspire me ! )

Well, there are current examples of European makes manufactured outside of their respective companies. The X5 and ML-class are not made in Europe. Some North American Toyotas are made in Canada with a high level of quality.
Countries like India manufacture for the Asian market, but probably too problematic and costly to ship large numbers of cars to North America. Boeing and Airbus outsource a lot of their aircraft manufacturing to other countries (especially Asia) because that's how they attract sales.
As for my opinion about Volvo, I'll continue to buy if the quality is still there. But, perhaps if it wasn't for Ford's capital...there may not be a Volvo anymore, I dare say.

Well as you all know the S40/V50 are made in Belgium. Not Swedish? I don't think so. The cars are still designed and engineered in Sweden just built in Belgium.

Not to mention the fact that all current (and soon to be replaced) inline Volvo engines were jointly developed with Porsche, the use of Japanese and American automatic transmissions, German engine management systems, etc.
Volvo ceased being a purely Swedish company LONG before Ford entered the picture. I think of Volvo as a automotive safety engineering and automotive integrater more than anything else these days (and many other companies fit this model as well.)
Heck, 10 years from now don't be shocked if many non-Asian brand premium cars are designed and possibly built in places like China.

SO it will be the day when I will change Volvo to another more original mark.
I don't have any against asian cars they are very good but if you buy a european car you want a european car, not a car that is make in china with only a european name. So I think is better to buy a original asian car instead.

Who want to buy a Ford 150 pick up that is make in china or a suburban for exemple.....
Mauritx

I doubt that very seriously. There's too much heritage, marketing and engineering tied to Sweden w/ Volvo. I'd be surprised if this came to pass anytime soon. But again, it's all about the all mighty dollar!!

But why would you have two standards? A safe car for your kids and a less safe one for you? It's kind of like....it's OK to orphan my kids if I died in a crash.

I wouldn't be surprised to see one of the models roll off a Ford N. American assembly line 1 day!
