I'm considering creating a change.org petition addressed to Volvo, because of the poor communication around AAOS.

It's pretty much consensus that AAOS is still lacking many "basic" features that SENSUS had. The problem, in my view, is that Volvo made promises in regards to regular AAOS updates, but the promise hasn't been kept.

There's no clear indication of what features are still planned to be implemented in AAOS and which features are being abandoned (and the reason they are being abandoned).
One example... One of the factors which determined my choice for a Volvo over the other cars I was considering was that Volvo promised Wireless CarPlay support via an OTA update to AAOS. I feel I would've made a different purchase had I known the updates to AAOS would be few and far between... and when they do come, there really aren't any significant upgrades, only minor/incremental tweaks.

The fact that they disabled OTA for some models, which I consider a key feature of AAOS, and haven't provided an ETA for OTA being reenabled also adds to the frustration.

Do you think a change.org petition would gain enough traction to get any type of attention from Volvo?

I would support doing what you propose. Numerous customers have experienced these and other problems related to AAOS and have spent countless hours with "dead" vehicles related to the TCAM / AAOS issues and numerous hours in the dealership attempting to get things fixed. It is a sad commentary that Volvo has not offered meaningful compensation to customers such as extending the warranty on these vehicles to cover all the issues with AAOS and TCAM

What has the car buying business come down to really if the driving factor is being able to use wireless phone interface vs wired one... Did you think about cancelling your order based on the wallpaper of the interface too?

How about basing your purchases on safe, well built, reliable, comfortable transportation :') And pushing for improvements in those critical areas.

Had I known how tiny the improvements would be and how many issues there are, especially using CarPlay, this would not have been my 3rd Volvo. It’s been in the shop for 2.5 weeks, including the issue where the display died with no heat in 20F weather, no backup camera etc. It’s not just annoyance that the whiz bang technology that I expected to work in an $60k car is worse then Sensus, it’s also a safety issue.

I'm not sure a car manufacturer has ever posted a substantial or useful roadmap for infotainment. People are expected to test drive the vehicle and buy the vehicle based on the current state of the system and whether or not it meets their needs.

Enabling people to buy on what ifs, maybes and future states has never been a thing and I hope it stays that way.

My purchase was based on all those VERY IMPORTANT criteria you listed... And then you have secondary, tertiary, etc criteria to take into consideration.
When all major brands in the same tier level offer basically the same level of SAFETY, BUILD QUALITY, RELIABILITY and COMFORT, you start analyzing the other aspects of the brand/model: post-sale support, user interface, aesthetics... heck, even personal preference items, such as colors available, rim design, etc.

I agree with you... BUT, resellers (representing Volvo) made promises. These promises influenced my decision. You can argue these are just salesmen doing salesmen things, but if you consider these actions have an impact on how the brand is perceived, I would imagine Volvo has some interest in making sure that those promises are aligned with their strategy.

We OBJECTIVELY know AAOS adoption and poor implementation by Volvo has had a negative impact on the brand. There was even a topic here where Volvo's recommendation was downgraded due to AAOS and how it's being dealt with.

It's a tough lesson to learn but never buying the first model year after a redesign has been a core car buying principal for most folks for decades. Teething issues are to be expected.

This has happened with most major brands on most major remodels and it's just a fact of life. Be glad it's infotainment and not engine, suspension, etc. and that all of the features aren't going the way BMW is with subscription gates to recoup the cost of infotainment maintenance. Even Toyota charges for remote start nowadays.

That's the thing, the other brands in the same tier level don't need frequent updates, because they didn't release a half baked implementation of a new OS.
If Volvo had stuck with SENSUS, they wouldn't be needing more frequent updates either.

My opinion such a petition is pointless. Dealers a livid over the AAOS launch, and Volvo is well aware of the shortcomings. Volvo has had to buy back a mound of cars over this issue, and dealers have shared there outrage with Volvo time and time again. Volvo is working hard to correct it becasue they are well aware of the issue. A few consumers sending a petition won't speed that up or tell Volvo something they haven't' know for over a year.

I'm not sure you are very familiar with how software updates work in the auto industry. To say Volvo has more frequent updates is simply false. After working at multiple brands from multiple continents Volvo is no different than others. BWM, MB, Audi, Lexus all have frequently software updates, basically every week a new version is pushed out.

No brand on earth gives a "roadmap" for features to consumers, as they don't want to make promises they can't keep. Just look at the CarPlay launch promise they made where "soon" turned into "over a year" due to Apple issues (not Volvos).

And if you think other brands at this price level basically offer the same level of safety you are creating an opinion that caters to how you want to view the situation compared to the reality of the situation. You might consider the latest IIHS findings that show, once again, Volvo outperformed nearly every other small SUV tested (an by a wide margin on many of the metrics).

SENSUS wouldn't have needed updates for the same reason that brands aren't putting a lot of effort into updating large displacement V6 engines - its obsolete. That system was dated when I took delivery of my 2019 XC60. So, yeah an EOL product is more stable than a first gen product.

AAOS is not perfect but it's also not as bad as some are stating here. After living with it for 10 months, and having lived with SENSUS for 3 years, I don't see a huge amount missing from AAOS than was present in SENSUS. And, I'd also have to point out that it AAOS includes a lot of features that SENSUS did not begin to have (like actual voice commands that work).

That's not to say there aren't issues like the mind boggling dumb use of the arrow keys on the wheel, or the large number of clicks and swipes it take to just change the drive mode. However, I'd easily take AAOS right now over SENSUS (as it was when I turned in my last XC60 at the end of the lease).

I will say that I don't think either system is anywhere near the better infotainment units out there. Compare Uconnect, iDrive and whatever Kia/Hyundai/Genesis calls their systems to SENSUS and AAOS and you'll see.

SENSUS was basically a joke compared Sync 4 in my Lincoln and I don't think AAOS compares all that well either.
