What Chris Said................ You Go Bro......
In February of 2000 our Branch tested '00, V70 XCs for potential supplemental mobility platforms.(Fed talk for sedan replacements) We are very truck and interceptor heavy in the Crisis Response business.
After Winter testing was completed in the Wasatch Range of Utah, Home to the 2002 Winter Games, Volvo N.A. and Don Beyer Volvo, Alexandria delivered them to the FBI Academy for track testing. We were fortunate to get SAAB N.A. to bring down a 9-3 Viggen, a 9-5 Aero Wagon and Sedan for a head-to-head.
The Aero Wagon was sweet, great power.......Viggen had major torque steer issues, incredible handler under way......Aero Sedan was awesome, windows up, it out ran our 5.7L Caprice Interceptor(Corvette engined).
In the end, the low pressure turbo XCs were thought, by a majority of Agents that sampled all of the contestants, to be superior.
For several years Volvo N.A. has put a T-5 sedan and wagon against all comers in the Michigan State Police, Patrol Vehicle Testing/Evaluation Program. This event grows each year. 2003 marks it's 27 year of testing.
Each year Volvo were there, the only thing that out-gunned them was the Chevy Camaro with a 5.7L V8...... Ford has taken Volvo out of the evals for some strange reason......????? Could it be the "Cross Trainer"???

Anyways, I went out after our tests and found our '98 V70R AWD and bought it sight unseen. Flew to upstate New York and drove it home the same day. I've been sorting it out since then and continue to use my personnal owned ride as a test bed for Crisis Response. I am very close to getting the authorization to get some AWD, high pressure turbos into our fleet.... XC-90 looks like a winner with the T-6.
These platforms are multi-taskers.............overt or covert..........and all weather to boot....
With the chip, exhaust, and the 17" TSWs our R would give the new R a good run for it's estimated US dollar price(TBD) money...
Griff

[Modified by Griff_33, 12:26 AM 1-1-2003]
