I've been looking for a Volvo sedan for a while now. I've found plenty of S40's with auto tranmissions, but theres only 1 yes ONE within 75 miles of my house in Minnesota and my parents in Colorado.
But, here is what I'm looking for.
-A sedan
-S series-probably only an s40 will be in my price range.
-Around $12000
and in good shape, but I assume that goes without saying :p
Any pointers in the right direction or suggestions would be a plus. I look forward to finally getting into a car that is mine :-D

Thanks.

Re: WNTED: Volvo Sedan! MANUAL! (MAVolvo22)

It all depends on how long you are willing to look and if you are willing to settle... 2.5 years and 3100 miles to get it. But I will tell you what... I couldn't have done a better job than if I had selcted it's options at the assembly line.
I had a very specific shopping list that I wasn't willing to budge from... It almost made me feel that I would never get an R at that rate, but I did!. I would right down the must haves and the would be nices and can live with outs. Once you have that then start lookin in your price range... You might be able to suprise yourself with finding a nice S40 T5 AWD if that is your bag or even an S60R or S60 T5 depending on what you are willing to look past and how hard you are willing to find that diamond in the rough

Re: WNTED: Volvo Sedan! MANUAL! (kmg_S60R)

Your best bet is probably an 04 S60R. There were more manuals in that car than a 'properly' equipped S40 - and it's much more of a car.
Contact the member JRL
He might be able to help you find something.

Right on. Thanks for the info. I've been considering going to Cali to take a look at an 05 S40 2.4. I'm still looking though. I really do not want to settle for an auto, just not as fun.

My main concern with going to an 04 is the high mileage the car is bound to have :-/.

Define high mileage. You can beat 50k miles on an 04 all day long. But probably not on an R for $12k.
There should be an '03 or '04 S60 T5 manual somewhere for $12k. You'll just have to look a while.

I would also check the classified section on this site from time to time. Good luck

Re: WNTED: Volvo Sedan! MANUAL! (MAVolvo22)

Just keep looking and be patient. I looked for 4 or so months for my car before I got it. It was super hard to find a black on black S40 T5 AWD, and I actually wanted a geartronic so that made the search a little easier.
Are you wanting a daily driver or a powerhouse? I test drove and looked into all of the main models of the S40 and S60, and in the end decided the S40 T5 was the best balance of power/fun and driveability for me. I like the looks of the S40 and its peppy-ness, and it is the perfect size for me. The R has some more power, but I didn't like the interior dash design or headlights (which hardly changed during the last few years) as much as the S40 design. It definitely has more of a cult following than the S40 though, and better performance numbers. It also has quite a bit of repairs that are pretty common (angle gear, etc), a turning radius of a small boat, and a few other quirky things: but I think most people will agree most Volvo models have their extra problems to take into consideration.
My final decision was S40 T5 AWD because it is my daily driver, better fit my price range, and it's looks. If I had a daily driver and wanted a fun car to trick out, and some spare cash, I would have looked more into an R. I'd shy away from a S40 2.4 as most guys on here who get one end up saying they wish they had held out for a T5, since you are very limited on the performance modifications. V50s and V70s are also super cool, I almost wished I had gotten one as they have much better storage and seating room, and pretty killer looks for a wagon.
Sorry for the long post, just wanted to give you my thoughts and opinion from my car search.

Re: WNTED: Volvo Sedan! MANUAL! (carreragt7)

This car is for sure going to be my daily driver that I'd like to sink some cash into and make it my baby. I'm thinking I'll hold out for a S40 T5 or an older S60.

I'd say high mileage is the point where the car is starting to show signs of age. As I'm currently driving a Honda with 240xxx miles on it (and showing no signs of wear besides regular maintenance), I have no idea how to gauge mileage on other cars. Especially Volvo's! haha.
Carreragt, you've convinced me to hold out for something better in my price range. What year of S40 did you decide on?
However, I did find an 05 S40 for $10800. http://www.wayzatanissan.com/u...5cd99#
I am thinking that theres something wrong with it. It isn't old, nor is there many miles on it. I'll go check it out.

Re: WNTED: Volvo Sedan! MANUAL! (MAVolvo22)

I have an 05 S40 T5 AWD, and paid $13,500 for it last October or so.Had 53k on it, all options including Nav, aftermarket body kit and a couple Heico parts.
I also have an 02 S60, base model. The S60 is more comfortable to drive, but has hardly any go when needed. The S40 before lowering springs and 19" wheels was a comparable comfort, but now is a little more harsh, but it has A LOT more get up and go. I am sure if you bought an S60 T5 you could get the best of both worlds, I've heard of some guys modding there T5 to be just as fast as an R.
If you can find an 07 S40 T5 around your price range, I'd say go for it, even if it is a little more than you'd like to pay. It will hopefully have the AUX input that my car doesn't have, so you don't have to have a lame FM transmitter or spend $500 on a Dension Gateway.
Good luck on the hunt!

No problem. The S40/V50/C30 gang is for the most part a very friendly and helpful bunch of people, so feel free to post in that section if you have any questions about those models. Swedespeed is a pretty classy forum compared to most, a very good source of info.

Re: WNTED: Volvo Sedan! MANUAL! (carreragt7)

Alright. I found a car in which the seller (private) is seemingly asking a ridiculous amount for an '04 S60. I'm wondering if anyone could take a look see at it and tell me what they think. I Kelly Bluebooked it, and it gave me the price of $12840. I'm still a n00b at all this, haha, and again looking for advice! I'll give a quick rundown and post the link of the craigslist ad.
"For sale is my 2004 Volvo S60 R AWD Sport Sedan with the very rare 6 speed manual transmission!! This car is extremely fast with 300 HP, and it handles better than any other car I have driven. It is AWD and has three suspension settings at the touch of a button. It has 84,000 pampered miles. All maintenance has been performed meticulously. I have taken the car to the specialists at Carl Duke Volvo in Fort Collins for everything. The car runs and drives perfect.
• Black Sapphire exterior with tan leather interior
• Airbags all around
• Power Everything
• Aftermarket pioneer stereo with iPod hookup in the glove box
• Tinted windows
• Power sunroof
• 18” Pegasus Wheels
• 3 way adjustable suspension (comfort, sport, and advanced)
• 300 HP inline 5 cylinder motor with high pressure turbo
• Rear fold down seats
• Front power seats with 3 preset settings
• Front seat warmers
• Winter mats (regular carpeted mats also included)
• Exterior in excellent condition
• Interior is in excellent condition
• Tires are Kumho Ecsta ASX All Season in good shape, full sized and regular spare
• Leather wrapped stick shift
• Fresh oil change, new A Arm bushings, new sway bar link, new alignment
Amazing Car!! More pics available upon request. $17,500 or best offer"
Link (With a few pics): http://denver.craigslist.org/cto/1145401250.html

Thanks again fellas

Happy hunting.
And to the craiglist ad, I would be lucky to get $17,500 for my 04 SR with 33K miles.

Remember that KBB varies by region, but even then, in our region that car books private party excellent at $13,675. And KBB is often higher than what you actually get for it. He is definitely too high.
I understand why though, these cars lost a ton of their value in just the last year. That's gotta be hard to swallow while you're still making the payments.
