Does anybody know how to make the wiper to wipe my windshield smoothly? Right now it is very rough as the window and wiper contact is not full and that the wiper jumps around just as if the window is dry but then it's raining hard. Any suggestions?
Thanks guys

You might try changing the wipers, not just the single blades. Anco Premium work perfectly, in my opinion. They are always smooth and work really well for up to a year or so. The wipers are really easy to change as well.
-Drew

Mr. T5 , Try turning the wipers on and when they are straight up vertically turn the key to the off position so they stay up. Then at the base of the arm of the wiper push the arm down so it is putting tension on the arm then let go. This slightly bends the arm in to create more pressure on the blade.
It's an old Volvo trick.
Good Luck

Re: (CAL)

Like Mr.T5, I started having problems with my wipers. Before I say anything else, I have researched the Swedespeed site and found nothing that talks specifically about poor wiper performance in cold temps. So I need some help:
I'm driving home last night in the snow. Temp is 27. Everything is freezing to the windshield before the blades can clear it. I've got the defrost on full blast. Had to pull over, physically clear the windshield and wiper blades. I noticed the wiper "arm" that holds the blade is completely frozen. So I knock out the ice, flex it the blade a few times and hop back in. No luck I kept getting the splotchiness as the clean blades would only clear off small portions of the swept area. Pulled over 2 more times, but nothing helped.
I know many people have had complaints re: the windshield wipers on various Volvo models, but before I take it to the dealer for a warranty replacement, is there anything anyone can suggest to combat the apparent "frozen" wiper arm problem? The blades work perfectly otherwise (above 30 F).

Wipere blades are supposed to be done under warranty?
I just paid $25 to have mine changed by the dealer, and now they are chattering/skipping like crazy. I also had to pay for my oil change as well, even though I was at the 22,500 mile mark (see my other post on this topic).

Re: (JRL)

My S60 has the 'chatter' problem on the driver's side. It seems to come and go, I can't pin down what weather conditions make it come and go. Nice to hear that there might be an angle adjustment the dealer can do to fix it.
On a side note, I recently installed a wannabe flat-blade from Canadian Tire ($25CDN), it works well, seems better at high-speed and didn't freeze stiff with some recent ice-raing like my stock blade did on the passenger. I seems to chatter less often. I also like that I can see the red security LED from in front of the car more easily than with the big bulky stock blade. On the other hand, I think using flat blades with stock non-flatblade arms looks a bit funny though. Just can't win
field172.

My new wipers seems to chatter at 27F or colder, which someone also posted. Really pisses me off that OEM Volvo wipers don't work in the cold.

Re: (Mr. T5)

I would sugest a little car wax on the windshield it will help out a bit. also I was just rescently driving through Austria in a snow blizzard and the blades were freezing up, not on the wind shield but on the coverage of the windshield, the front windhield defrost on max tend to work well after a few secs

AFAIK some consumable items (like wiper blades and brake pads, NOT gasoline unfortunately) are covered under the 12mo/12kmiles adjustment period.
Freddy

Re: (ChicagoT5)

With older cars, I can "blip" the wiper stalk to get the wipers to stop just above the windshield. This way it gets some of the heat from the windshield (defoggers), reduces ice accumulation, etc. However I cannot do that with the electronically-controlled wipers in modern cars.
Freddy

Re: wiper in normal climate

in normal weather my wipers jitter sometimes as well, but just by cleaning it periodically helps a lot
