On the way home today I'm trying to use the windshield washers and no fluid is coming out. My wife says yeah its been out of fluid since we picked it up from the dealer a few weeks ago, she just hasnt put any in . What I thought was odd was that the car normally tells you its empty and to add some but it wasnt saying that. I stopped at a gas station grabbed some fluid and emptied about 3/4 of a bottle into the reserve. Hit the stalk and nothings coming out wipers are moving but no fluid. I tried a few times thinking maybe it just needs to run threw since it was "out" but still wouldnt work.
Anyone else experience this? Its going in for its 30k service in two weeks and I'm not going to rush it in just for the wiper fluid not working but I thought it was really odd.

Re: Windshield washers not working (minorthr)

The easiest solution is to check the fluid nozzles to see if they're clogged. If they are, you can open them up yourself using a safety pin to pick out the debris.
If the nozzles are good, put the car into II and run the washers - you should be able to hear/feel the fluid pump working. If you can't then your pump is dead or disconnected. There could be some loose/disconnected harnesses, possibly from when the car was in for service last if the tech had to remove the reservoir to perform the work.

This is pretty common on the older 850's. The t-valve may be clogged. The t-valve is simply an in-line check valve that prevents washer fluid from flowing back to the reservoir. I am not sure where the valve is on the newer cars, however.
