I don't know if anyone else has had this problem, but after last winter I had had two bad cracks in my windshield, so I had it changed a couple of weeks ago. A little more expensive because of the rain sensor, but no big deal. I was driving home last night in the right lane on the highway, not following anyone too close. The people in the left passing, I must have taken a rock but I didn't hear it, but on the drivers side it cracked from the top corner on an arc right into my line of vision! AAAAA!! You should have heard the things coming out of my mouth. I can't believe it! We have had our Integra for 8 years and have not replaced the windshield yet!!! Is it our glass? My understanding was that Volvo glass is a mm thicker than other manufacturers. Or is it just my bad luck? I am staring to think of selling my car and getting an 07. I bought the first manual to hit our dealer in 04. My auxiliary belt went causing timing belt to fail, result brand new head, radio replaced twice for freezing, brakes replaced twice, etc, etc. I am getting disheartened

Re: Windshield, grrrrrr (Dills)

Nothing to compare to your ordeal but within the first couple week of getting my '05 V50 my windshield developed a chip. It's not too big so I couldn't justify replacing the windshield but it is always catching my eye. At some point I will break down and get it fixed for the sake of my sanity.

Re: Windshield, grrrrrr (Dills)

You live in Alberta. It is the land of rock chipped windshields. Catching a rock has nothing at all to do with the car!!! I wouldn't say you have bad luck with the Volvo glass, but good luck with the Honda glass. 8 years on a single windsheild in Alberta is amazing!
Al

There was a thread last year where people were complaining about the windshields chipping easily and others cracking their windshield from slamming the wipersdown after cleaning them.
I recall someone saying that our windshields are softer for safety reasons. Like if you hit someone and they land on your windshield, the impact isn't as deadly to the pedestrian you just hit.
Search the archives, I think the thread was pretty long.

I had them look at it and they said its a chip. I had complained about when it gets really hot out, 32C, and I crank A/C, there is like a bang from the front, sounds like something is shifting. They can't find problem as usual.

I have windshield insurance (comes with my normal car insurance didnt pay any extra for it) small crack repairs are free and whole new windshield 150 euros. Replacing the windshield doesnt lose insurance bonuses

Re: Windshield, grrrrrr (Al Canuck)

I second the 'location, location, location' factor for Alberta. I grew up in Edmonton and it is unbeleivable the amount of rocks and road debris there. My father must have replaced his windsheilds 10x over a 20 year period. There were 4 windsheild replacement shops within a 5 block radius of our house.
