I thought I would try this here as Volvo insists that there is nothing wrong with my Defrost. My Windshield and both Front Windows continually fog up, none of the rears do however. Any suggestions to help clear this up? Have cleaned all the windows thoroughly with Windex with little success. Have also tried Rain X anti-fog,
. Not sure what is causing it, but any help would be appreciated. The windows were always clear until last fall.

do you live in a polluted area, do you smoke-in your car, what specific scenerio is happening when the fog happens. I think a little is to be expected, its natural, but it should quickly disapear when the defroster is blowing and what not. You could try the window cleaner from P21S, its a great product, will remove any contaminants, but thats not for fog, its for smoke, pollution, etc. I would also recomend you dont use windex on your car windows, its not the best product for the job. I like automotive Sprayway, its foam-no drip, amonia free, cheap, easy to use, really doesnt streak, I love it.

Good questions! I live about 1 hour north of NYC in the middle of nowhere. No one smokes, and there is nothing specific that causes this. Take this mornings commute. 5:30 AM, 46 degrees outside, Thermostats set at 66 degrees. Not 2 minutes into the trip and the windows start fogging up. I basically had to run the defroster for the entire trip. It works fairly quickly whether I put it on hot or cold. Some morning cold does not work and I need hot and vice versa. Problem is I either freeze or melt. At this point I am considering taking the train!

Your situation sounds similar to when the 850 rocker panel switch for cabin air re-circ mode is left in the on position, the same as you describe will happen in a lot of circumstances. Not sure if the V70 has same set up.

I agree and the dealer asked me the same question. When the defrost is turned on the re-circ switch automatically engages to fresh air. You would think the dealer knew this? It is a nice feature though, if it is working.

So is your problem fixed? I hope so, that would be horible, especially in such a nice car. Sounds like a fog problem though, not a smog problem. I will say, living so close to the city, washing the inside windows with a good cleaner is a good idea, they will get a residue on them. Also cleaning the rest of the interior will also get this layer of crap on it. Always good to clean it off. I didnt beleive it till I saw someone show me how dirty the interiors can get from this stuff. I also saw an air filter from a volvo in the city vs my more rural town. Wow, quite a difference.

The overwhelming majority of our customers who complain about fogged up windows have the "recirculation" button ON when they thought it was OFF.

I would agree with that, but...
When the Defrost is turned on the AC comes on automatically and the Recirculation button goes to fresh air not recirculate. You can try to press the button but it will not switch from fresh air. I was so cold this morning I could see my own breath but the window was fairly fog free. At this point I am thinking about a new car!

I had a C70 that was always fogging up, the dealer replaced a sensor on the automatic climate control unit and it fixed the problem, I am trying to remember if there was a light on the climate control that blinked but there was some sign that the dealer said tipped them off, it wasn't a warning light it was on the unit itself. I think its when the unit is in the auto mode. V70 has the same control unit so maybe its worth a look.

OK I looked up the V70 manual on the owners circle I guess this is what my dealer saw on my car ...

"The RECIRCULATION and AC lights will flash for approximately 20 seconds if a fault is detected in the A/C ssystem.
If this flashing recurs the next time the system is switched on, the climate control unit should be checked by an authorized Volvo retailer. "

hope this helps
