Anybody have the sun blinds on the rear seat windows and luggage compartment windows. i have the rse and the kids are moaning that they cant see the screens plus i figure it would make it cooler.

its just that i dont want to blow AUD$400 if they are not that great. also do the back seat blinds go up and down with the window like an ordinary house window blind.

Any info would be appreciated.

cheers

Needsdecaf has them on his 04 V70R. They're so good I actually thought the windows were tinted until I took a close look at them. http://********************/smile/emthup.gif

Re: Window Blinds (Lotus99)

Yes thats them. Below is a cut and paste from the price my dealer provided. the prices are consistent with most other dollar point on accessories i thing volvo australia simply look at the US price and double it. Makes for an easy cost basis i suppose.

30740305 for the passenger windows (2 blinds) $180.15 inc gst
30740308 for the cargo windows (3 blinds) $247.35 inc gst

Re: Window Blinds (Hatdriver)

I have had them on for two days and they are fantastic. Best thing is that when the lease is up on this vehicle in a little over three years because the 70 is a new model if i get another xc70 i will be able to take these off and put them on the new car (anything to save AUD$400).

They are tight fitting and you have to get within a yard or two to see that they are blinds. I mean they really do look like tint. Best thing is that with all the glass in this wagon they really cool the car on a hot day.

Re: Window Blinds (notthestig)

Hi NTS,

Sorry for the delay, been real busy with the son and his sports over the last couple w/e's with cricket not finished and rugby starting. watched the dockers game the other night and they seem to show a bit of promise which should be good for the club.

I am also up to 33K and the good news is that the last service was half the cost of the first service (figure that??).

the blinds are great on a hot day and dramatically reduce the heat inside the vehicle even without one of those reflector things you put inside the windscreen. They fit good and are real tight. Best thing is that because they clip into the top frame (not over the window) you can lower the back windows and vent the car no probs and the blinds just stay in place. I just didnt want any little aussie battler hands removing the inside door covers as I had previously had a honda crv done with the tint and the door handle wouldnt work. Others tell me they dont take off the interior of the door but i am so happy with this car i have pretty much settled on getting another when the lease is up and it will be a matter of removing the accessories on current car and putting them on new car (financial crunch you know).

My only criticism is that I think the back window blind could have been shaped a bit better though maybe I am being a bit overboard. I will get some photographs this w/e inside and out.

Your car came out of the same batch as mine. I had a creaking noise (see posts this site) and it almost sounded like the rear shocky had broke. All it needed was a bit of silicon grease massaged into the tailgate rubbers and hey presto; no noise.

Cheers

Good to hear they're working out well. So you don't have factory tinted windows, I assume?

Ours (can't recall which package) came with factory tinted glass in the rear doors and trunk. I'm wondering if for really sunny days, extra blinds would still be needed or not...

Re: Window Blinds (Hatdriver)

HatMan,

Luckily I am on the free servicing for the first 100k (even though there is no 100k service, just one at 90k - work that out !) so I don't know the costs. I do know that the dealer had to replace the front door tweeters due to the tinters scratching the covers and they were about $1k...

Things are going well with the car other than that (and a minor whine while coasting at 50km/h) and I would have no problems buying another when replacement is due (yes, with that long option list too) but I am wondering, due to the 30% tax break, if it worth considering changing already !

No noises in mine - I guess the tailgate setup may be slightly different due to the electric opening/closing - I don't know ?

PS. Can't see the AFL Grand Final having any WA content IMHO !

Re: Window Blinds (Lotus99)

Hi,

if you already have some tint I wouldnt go the blinds as i think it would make it too dark. the Mrs. made a comment the other day that it was a bit harder to see out the back since the blinds have gone in. so i reckon a combo of the blinds and the tint would be too much. having said that i have no doubt but that the blinds would make an already tinted car cooler again. if you have a friendly dealer and they have any used blinds laying around it might be worth putting one up for a look see. I am giving the volvo a tub this weekend and will take some shots for you and get them up.

cheers

Re: Window Blinds (Hatdriver)

Hi NTS,

I saw that 30 per cent thing in the paper the other day and have to have a look at the tax site to see what it all means. if you reckon its worth it let me know your reasoning.

having said that i have the Mrs. merc clk240 coming out of a 5 year lease later on this month. Its a 2004 model A$120K on the road, one dealer offered $34K and the dealer I ordered her replacement estate from a few months back has at least offered $39K. i have put it on Drive if u want to have a look. Its the Iolith blue/pebble beige one. poor photo's for some reason but its an outstanding vehicle. The wheel steering wheel cost $2k alone.

Notwithstanding dropping at least $70 over 60 months ( alittle over $10k every 10 months) i reckon it will save me money in the long run. See it was the mrs. that got the trade in valuations and she now hates mercedes. Yippee. I am locked into the C class estate but I feel as if a giant weight has been lifted off my back. Obviously I slip in the odd barb and make an already festering wound worse but she really doesnt like merc any more. Yee Haa. http://forums.swedespeed.com/z...10528# Having said that lets move right along to the new Audi Q5. Have you seen it. I always loved the Q7 but it was just toooo big. the Q5 is perfect and the interior is real good too. I think now with those lousy trade in offers i might just be able to steer her into it.

Cheers
HD.

Re: Window Blinds (Hatdriver)

Well, changeover would be well worth it if our cars were a bit older but I am still looking into it...

The CLK sounds nice. The depreciation isn't - but nothing is great lately unfortunately !
I had a ride in a CLK63 Black recently - what a hotrod that was !

Haven't physically seen a Q5 but have read a bit about them. I like the look and spec. Seems to be around the size of the first X5 believe it or not. I would buy one although I still think a Volvo is more "client friendly" for me ! My neighbour just bought a new TT-S (from a A3 V6) and a cousin has a Q7 (aircraft carrier sized !). I like the interior quality and the way they set out the dash. Can you cancel the C class ? I would say a Q5 may be a better resale proposition than a C Class estate IMHO... The Audi would be my pick of the two !

Re: Window Blinds (notthestig)

Hi NTS,

Had a few unsuccessful cracks at using flikr from yahoo b4 finally realised had a patch straight thru from iphoto. Going thru with the merc. Pity i could have driven the Q5 as well and kept a few k's off the xc70. my accountant reckons its not worth switching for the 30 pc depreciation as I havent had the car long enough but should be able to pick most of it up on the merc. which should in a miniscule way offset the huge loss on the clk. so much for mercs holding their value, hey.
