With the new XC90, I was wondering if the V70 XC would become the XC70 or not. I guess it could make sense either way. On one hand, the XC90 isn't a raised version of any other 90 series car, unlike the XC which is a raised V70. It makes my head ache, but at the same time, I was thinking of changing the badging on my V70 XC to XC70. Now too bad mine doesn't have Haldex.

From what I understand yes, the V70XC will be renamed the XC70 for the 2003 model year.
Check out http://www.swedespeed.com/ubb/Forum24/HTML/000119.html too.

I have a feeling as well, that for the 2003 model year the the V70 XC will become the XC70 and it will get the larger 2.5 liter I5 LPT 210hp from the XC90. I am sure it will get a few other upgrades as well.
-Drew

If history proves to be any sort of indicator, Volvo will continue with the same body style for the next five to seven years, but make slight adjustments to gradually freshen up the look.

I too doubt whether Volvo will change the V70 body as soon as 2003, that would only be two years after the introduction of a totally new design. Usually, they keep it for 4-5 years before they make a major change, it would not be cost effective to do otherwise.

Hmmm, I didn't even think of that. I was banking on them leaving it pretty much the same when I broke down and bought our XC. I just figured they might change the name. I think I saw somewhere that someone posted what Volvo had copyrighted recently and the name "XC70" was amongst it.
If it changes Coastal, are you going to change the name of your site?

They build a heckava car, just can't market to save their lives.

That is something I've always hated about Volvo. They tinker with the name of their car too much.
Why on earth did they rename the 960 the S90, only to ax it that year? I liked the old names that were just numeric...
