Will 17"x8" Pegasus wheels fit FWD V70? Which tires should I choose: 225/45 or 215/45? I'd like not to use spacers - will I need them? note that these are genuine Volvo rims, not replicas..

Running 215/45 - I did hear a rub at full lock the other day but nothing of concern and lots of daily driving, I'm very happy with this setup.

Lube or replace the steering stops, possibly/probably the noise

hi Chris.. so you're running 215s.. isn't the tire to thin to fit 8" rim? i mean.. volvo puts 235 on pegasus with S60R/V70R.. what's your experiene about driving? i mean: how easily is to scratch edge of the rim?

You can't really go with any larger tire because of the 8" and the offset of the PEG.
Certain 225's (45/17) MAY fit, depending on the tire brand and the cross section width of that particular tread block ,(each tire is different and can vary by up to an inch (in the same "size').
The optimum wheel for a Gen 1 (IMO) is a 17x 7.5 with a decent offset (46-49mm) like my Thors or IPD Nebula replicas.
Comets are also perfectly sized and will work with a 225 quite easily
Thors:

and Comets:

You must be careful with the wheel offset.
Any wheel with less than a 42mm offset and 225/45/17 may rub in the rear
Re: Will 17x8 Pegasus wheels fit? (manatee)

Listen to JRL
I had 215/45-17 on pegs an S70. Rubbed in rear on inner side without spacers mostly when turning onto inclines (like a driveway). 5mm spacers took care of that except in the most extreme cases... spacers are fine so don't worry about using them.
On a fully loaded car I had an occasional outer rub on the fender lip when hitting highway dips. Wasn't bad enough to worry about.
As JRL pointed out, all of this can vary depending on wheel offset, wheel width, specific tire, and specific car. I would like to add that you can go for years with no problem; and then the day comes when you load the car with people and cargo for a big trip and you discover the problem.
I have also used 215/45-17s on the S70 with 7.5" width, 43mm offset wheels with absolutely no problem. I even tried 224/45-17s on the same wheel and had no problem. I tried that with three passengers in rear, but not more. Note that a 7.5"versus 8" wheel width makes a huge difference.
V70 may provide more wheel well room than S70 - seems like the V70 people have fewer problems.
-Ted

When going from perfos to pegs, can the OEM lug bolts (from the perfos) be used?

All Volvo (Gen 1 and P2) lugs have the same length and thread

+1
235/40's are fine (if you don't mind a little rub @ full lock).
The main issue is w/AWD is shaving the bolts that pass through the trailing arm - they will gouge the inner lip of the rims if you don't grind it flush

BTW, good luck with your sale.
I never said YOUR car wasn't worth it, all I said is that it's a stretch unless you find that buyer who wants one of the most unigue (and quickest) V70XC's in the world!
