My wife calls me on her way to work today and tells me while she was driving, the car made this weird grinding noise the exclamation point came on and the car said anti skid/ ABS needs service now.

She pulled over shut the car off restarted it and it then said shutting off ABS

I know a few people here have gotten the anti skid message. Anyone ever see shutting off ABS?

If the pads are worn then that is the wear sensor on the back of the pad that is sending that info.

what wear sensor? there's only a mechanical scraper...

And if that "mechanical scraper" is exposed or jarred this would cause the code. At least in my case it did.

the mechanical device is a scraper that hits the rotor when the pad gets thin, causing a horrific grinding noise... there's no sensor...just an audible indicator.

i've changed the brake pads myself-- there's no electronics involved. the only thing i can think of is that with the pad wearing, the brake fluid level in the res. dropped... but thats not a good indicator of pad wear since the inside and outside pads wear at different rates...

if volvo designed the system that way, that would be asinine-- disable abs and traction control if the pads wear down?? i think the dealer fed you a bs line, or volvo designed the system rather stupidly

Well 3 weeks after getting it back wife calls me this morning on her way to work and she is telling me she has the exact same message
I call the dealer and they tell me to let it sit for 30 minutes then start it and see what it says

Although this is par for the course since it usually takes 2 trips to get stuff fixed.
