I am falling behind on the V70R to do list while trying to use it as my daily driver, so I am in the hunt for a new daily driver and possible replacement for the V70R. Looking seriously at a 2017 V60 Polestar and a few others and thought I should get my wife's input before I pull the trigger. To no surprise, she didn't like any of my options and after doing her own research she recommends the XC40 if I am sticking with Volvo. Now she won't speak to me because I scoffed at the XC40 as possible replacement for the V70R. I guess it looks sporty to her!

The XC40 is a great utilitarian vehicle, thats it. Personally a V60P is great choice, really solid cruiser, especially the 6 cylinder model.

With the 2019 V60 release, the 2017 V60 is already dated. 2019 V60 or XC40.

Yeah replace a unique tuned sport wagon with a generic SUV. It'll be great.

Thank you. Somebody gets it and that's exactly the kind of sarcasm that got me in trouble. Then she tried to explain to me that it wasn't an SUV.

She's right though. It's neither sporty nor utilitarian...

I've found its better to just not ask when making important automotive decisions.

I've also been divorced once.

There may, or may not be, any correlation.

The R is definitely not a money pit by any stretch. If you maintain it and don't try an destroy it, it costs around 1800-2200 a year in maintenance, and that's putting 15k on it a year. Try FD rx7, that is a monies pit.

It totally makes me sad when rando SS threads (about funny marriage things) end up sh*tting on 1 of my fave "what if" to-buy cars. to OP: I've been thinking about buying a cheaaaaap daily (new Chebby volt) to supplement the stupidly large SPA truck and as a DD for the broke-ass vR for a couple of months now. This being Memorial Day weekend so it would've been the right time, so I asked for permission. She gently, and reasonably, told me to **** off and we spent the next 2 days on a chill vacay. Buying cars is great until it's not. That said, today I went back onto all the car websites and looked at the updated car prices. It's less offensie than looking at porn?

If your asking if you should buy an FD Rx7? Answer F*** YES. Huge money pit but didn't regret it for one second.

As far as the XC40, it is EXTREMELY utilitarian. The ergonomics on it really are top notch, door panel storage, trunk room etc. Is it wonky, yes, is it a truck no, it's a smaller segment CUV. Personally the XC60 is loads higher quality.

Here is what I tell my wife when she has some sort of objection to my car purchases (and I buy a lot of them) We can do this two ways; I can purchase this car or have a mistress, you pick.

I haven't had a mistress yet :D
