Here is my question: Why is that Volvo is able to make a seat that is so much more comfortable than the competition? I've got a bad back, so this is always a major issue for me. A lot of the vehicles in this class have horrendous seating. I found the Acura and Gensis seats pretty good as well, but Volvo is lightyears ahead of its other Euro competition. BMW X3 was OK, but the bottom of the seats was way too narrow, which is true of the Lexus NX as well.

You would think other companies would reverse engineer what Volvo has been doing and offer equivalent seating packages.

Go back before 2010 and they were even better – like a luxurious armchair.

I remember when buying my old XC90, the one I test drove was a MY2010 and had fantastic seats, but then sadly Volvo changed the seat design on the MY2011 to something I can only describe as being small, hard and Japanese brand like in feel, which you continually slid around on top of. There were lots of complaints back in the day.

Germanic brands were always known for being like siting on planks of wood and most cars have sadly now followed this direction.

But I still agree, Volvo still has the comfort edge with its seats, but sadly just not as comfortable as they used to be.

The most comfy Volvo seats to me were the 2004-7 P2 S60R sport seats. Those were like sitting in a nice warm hug. The new ones in my XC90 are a bit more spartan, but they’re still better than the competition. The only seats I liked as much as Volvo (if not more) were the sport seats in my Saab 9-3 Aero. Those fit me perfectly. I liked them so much I switched to Volvo after Saab went bye bye.

Seat comfort was one of the main reasons we choose our XC60 over the German and Japanese brands. We took extensive test drives in all of them, and there was really no contest in comfort. There were options in other brands that we wanted that weren't available in the Volvo, but they became secondary when seating comfort was taken into consideration. After all, the other bells and whistles were meaningless if your butt is sore.

Volvo seems to have dialed in the best support vs comfort in their seats (at least for me). The side bolsters are just enough to keep you in place and the cushions are just the right density. Even the lumber support seems well done. I swear in my wife’s BMW if you increase the lumbar support it’s like sitting against a bowling ball.

Seats are an individual thing, some people want firm, some soft seats.
There are people who like sports seats like me, and some others want comfortable seats.
It's the same as with car suspension, someone likes a harder sports suspension, someone wants a softer, more comfortable suspension.
The French brands Peugeot and Citroen have one of the most comfortable seats

So the statement that Volvo has more comfortable and better seats than the competition is ridiculous
The results say it all

Kind of contradictory in your statements aren't you? And I think you're missing the point of this thread altogether. We are talking about how we feel individually about our seats in the Volvo.

I don't understand what you are writing ?

I only responded to these claims

If your statement were true, everyone would buy Volvo cars and Volvo would have 3-6 times better sales results in the world, but just the opposite Volvo since 2019, its most successful year since its inception with 705,151 cars sold, is in constant decline, last year 2022, 615,121 cars were sold
Let's go back to what I wrote, the seats are an individual choice

I'm going to do something here that I almost never do, I'm putting BigBang on my ignore list. The passive/aggressive argumentative nature of this members posts have become a waste of my time. I usually never ignore a member, as I believe everyone can offer good information, but BigBang's posts rarely generate anything more than disagreeably useless put downs and repetitive argument.

I have to agree with the Citroën seats, I had a BX many years ago and they were superb for comfort.

As much as my current AAOS XC60 is making me crazy and wanting to drive it off a cliff because of its software faults, it’s seat comfort and long driving comfort is still one of the best currently available and is the only reason I’ve not sold it yet.

In Citroen CX the seats were like armchairs ;)
Unfortunately, there are no French vehicles on the US market
