When Polestar came in-house, was it Geely (corporate) buying it or Volvo (a division of Geely) who bought it?

Volvo has been contemplating an IPO; unsuccessfully so far.

But if Geely were to spin Volvo off, would Polestar be a part of the spin off?
Or would Geely retain Polestar??

Geely has a lot of other interesting brands including Lotus, Lynk/Cyan, Geometry and others.

Just curious how Polestar fits in as a separate brand now (not a just a tuner/sub-brand of Volvo?)
I suspect Geely would retain Polestar and separate it from Volvo...if they sold Volvo off.

Anyone have any input on this topic?

BTW: I hope this never happens as Volvo is much better off being as close to Polestar as possible!

Polestar Performance AB is a division, subsidiary, of Volvo Cars.

Geely, as the overall parent, could spin it off or retain any way they wanted. If they felt there was better value in retaining the Polestar brand then they'd keep it but if it provides more value for an IPO or equity sale as part of Volvo they'll do that.

Thanks; I hope Polestar stays under Volvo and is not left back with Geely. Since the failed IPO, Volvo has gotten some new financing:

Once the China tariff issue is resolved, maybe Geely will pull off the IPO of Volvo, hopefully with Polestar included.
It would be nice to see Sweden taking Volvo back; and maybe resuscitating SAAB while their at it...

Volvo is having troubles and is laying off people in Sweden: https://finance.yahoo.com/news/volvo-cars-cutting-several-hundred-153054116.html

At the same time, Polestar is expanding an engineering presence in the UK: https://finance.yahoo.com/news/defying-brexit-volvo-car-brand-081906565.html

And more details are coming out on next year's introduction of Google OS in the infotainment system for Polestar 2, and in the new Volvos:

Polestar is also seeking for funding and maybe future IPO if Polestar 2 is successful. As a EV company maybe it is easier to IPO than bigger Volvo.

Whatever, Geely will probably still be the biggest stake holder if IPO is possible.
