Hey, I saw your car parked in West Chester, PA (today)...I recognized as we, at Stillman Volvo, made it for what it (half) is today...it used to be a 242 automatic and with n/a engine and we converted it to manual with turbocharged multistaged engine. Of course, now it is much more toned down over what it used to be. It was dynoed at 240HP! Very quick...
On top of that, I noticed a "Swedespeed" sticker on the right rear window!!! Cool!
Yannis

quote:
You guys built that Yannis? What was the deal on that? Customer with deep pockets?

Yeah!! Hehehe! The "customer" with deep pockets was Ed Stillman... We got that car as a trade, kind of average shape, it was an automatic, non-turbo with a bit of rust on the floor (not horrible). We reconstructed (practically) the entire car; installed a 5-speed manual gearbox out of a 242 Turbo, turbocharged the engine (reworked it from the ground up), new suspension (don't know where they got the parts for it), turbo timer, turbo dial, 850 turbo exhaust (!), upgraded VVS-looking 240 OEM alloys (forget the name), repainted the whole car Silver Metallic...lots of other mods. The who project took about a year and more than $20,000...
Neat car. It was later detuned when it was given to one of Ed's young boys and later on sold to one of his acquaintances...
Yannis

I am upgrading my demo (as you probably know); it is a 2002 S60 AWD...It only has 340 miles. Spoke to Scott from iPd and he told me that the ECU upgrade is going to be ready within days...I will ship it ASAP and then I will report. I already installed a spoiler from spoilerdepot.com...It really looks very nice. I have received tons of compliments from staff and strangers alike. I may also put on fog lights. Then with the spoiler and the ECU upgrade, it will make it a nice package and some lucky customer will buy it when I am done with it, sometime in January or February.
Mr. Stillman took as his own demo a 1999 S80 T6 that one of retention customers turned in. Only 18,000 miles! Nautic Blue w/ Silver Granite leather, 4CD surround sound, etc. He also installed FOUR 17" Sentinel alloys, same as the S80 T6 Elites had...the car looks magnificent! I am working on him in order to upgrade the ECU on that car; that would transform his T6 as a TRUE BEAST!
So, these are our little projects, for the time being. We have also talked about doing this on an XC70...We have sold quite a few ECU upgrades after I did mine; we are waiting for iPd to finalize the 2002 models...My goal is to always have at least one car at our dealership with an upgraded ECU...

Yannis

That's great that you guys are aggressive about that kind of stuff. Looking forward to seeing your S60. I don't konw if you guys have a body shop, but you should consider doing a monotone XC70. I remember that pic of that one from Japan (silver I think) and it looked AMAZING.
George

Yeah, we have thought about it. Actually we have had two customers who have painted their 2001 XCs in this way; one was a Nautic Blue and the other was White (he painted everything, even the nose!). The white looked awesome, I wish I had taken pictures to show you. He also installed the 17" Thor alloys, put on a rear spoiler, tinted the windows...very aggressive. We are not sure how the paint would hold up on the plastic parts...

Yannis

Lots of flex agent needs to be added into the paint for the plastic parts, but doesn't seem to be any hasle if done right. I've seen a few around here (not Volvos) with the base trimmings painted. Looks good, not always perfectly smooth if you look really close though, probably depends on the surface texture below.

Yeah, I think that plastic is textured also, so I'd probably sand it before I painted it. That white one sounds hot. Yannis, if he ever coems back to service it, you gotta shoot that. It sounds like a GREAT looking car.
