I've never seen that button filled, I think it was just a blank made to keep the uniform look...
EDIT: I forgot all about the euro phone option.

They re-arranged all the buttons for the new ones. The phone button goes somewhere on there, making all 4 buttons filled. I thought about trying to swap out the whole waterfall so that I could utilize the built in bluetooth button, along with the "mode" button for the AUX input, but the dealer said the wiring is completely different, and couldn't be done. LAME.

It's for the cellphone option, which as a matter of course, isn't offered in our cars stateside (unless it's 08/09 or above, don't quote me)
video describing system at the international site ( no shot of the dash however) http://www.volvocars.com/intl/....aspx under Tech & Sound/Communication/Bluetooth Hands-free system, integrated
(from c30world.com forums) http://www.c30world.com/forums...nt=33
damn, beaten to the punch!
Ok, I see now. But was there an option for MY05/06 Stateside, the UK, Canadian, or European? I know they weren't thinking that far in advance and said "hey, let's screw the early buyers and not give them the option. Let's give it to those who wait until MY07 comes out"!

I looked in the manual and it mentioned something about an OEM subwoofer available on non-Canadian cars and IIRC the button for the sub was located there.
I doubt it. I have premium sound (in an S40) and that button is blank. I'm pretty sure the sound systems are the same between models because the speakers are in the rear doors not rear deck, which would necessitate a new location if you switch to a V50.
