During the late winter and spring of 2003 Volvo had 4 or 5 sites where they took 8 ( I think it was 8) new R's before they came out. About 100 people were selected on line to go and test drive the R's at each stop. There was a presentation indoors and then out on a make shift track. You went around the course with a professional driver then you got to drive it yourself, as fast and as hard as you wanted. It ended coming down a short straight away, then you mashed the brakes as hard as you could. It was well organized. You got a "R" hat and some other goodies. I think there was one in NYC, perhaps Orlando, Chicago, Southern California, and I can't remember where else. I rode my motorcylce to the one in Southern California. I actually was one of one that slid it out of the course. The cars were really thrashed and the rumor was the cars were going back to Sweden to be examined once they were done with the tour. Anyone else here go one of these events??? oclv

We did meet someone from Nevada who was looking at the same color combo but I don't recall who....I was so excited that I actually pulled the key out and shut the car off and walked away with the key when we came back from the course...Whoops....

There was one in Miami in May of 2003. Fun day. I still have the R hat.

Not sure how I ended up cruising the R forum again - memories...
My wife and son attended the El Toro event with me and had a blast. It was definitely a deciding factor that convinced the Mrs. that a R for the Mr. was in order
I miss my R these days...this island is too small and hilly for a sports car so I look back with fond memories of my R...
