Good Morning Boards,
I'm getting a whining noise coming out of my V50 T5 AWD. It seems to come on about 5 mins after startup and continues at the same pitch until I turn it off. There's no performance change of tranny issues that I feel. I brought it to a local Volvo shop and they're recommending pulling the tranny($1000) on top of the tranny flush that I have already had($150). I'm asking for a second opinion later this afternoon at Barrier Volvo where I bought it. The factory warranty has expired so I'm most likely going to pay hand over fist. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Hey there,
Is the sound constant or at certain speeds? I have a whine/howl that happens only at 35-40 mph when I let off the accelorator and the car coasts...not too sure what to make of it. I have an extended warranty, so I'll keep driving.

Did you check if it's the PCV issue? Pull your dipstick out enough to break the seal (an inch or two oughta do it) while your engine is running. If the sound goes away, you'll be covered under an extended volvo warranty for that part.

When you say dipstick do mean the oil dipstick?

Yes, the one you check your oil level with (has a yellow end, I think).
http://forums.swedespeed.com/zerothread?id=108593

Re: (mattdoc)

It was a PCV that needed to be replaced
FYI...REMPT Motor Co. in Auburn wanted to pull the tranny after saying it was not the PCV. I even brought in the recall notice for them to look at and they still said they would be shocked it that was it Most likely they would have taken me for $$$$...thanks for the advice guys. Lesson learned, go to a reputable business!

Re: (nme95k)

From what I understood is it stands for positive crankcase ventilation. I guess it recycles escaped gasses from the combustion chambers and puts them back into the intake manifold. There is a link"mattdoc" provided ( http://forums.swedespeed.com/zerothread?id=108593 ) in the above messages that explains the recall.
