If you were ordering an XC90, today, which package would you ABSOLUTELY want to have? Think carefully before you vote...

We will have a "playoff" with combinations once I get enough responses! So, vote for the package that YOU GOTTA HAVE!

If you are not sure about what each package offers, please click on www.volvoxc90.com/xc90/specs.shtml to find out what their contents are.

Why is it dumb? The 2.5T Premium gives you so much on a lower priced car. Adding the Dolby to that (which is not as much of a priority for the 2.5T clientele as it is for the T6 clientele) would make that package prohibitive for the average 2.5T customer. That is the reason why the Premium Audio is offered as a separate option, on the 2.5T.

Well, it seems that the VCNA has noticed that they made a mistake in package deals. They should have made more individual options available for all models like Europe market. http://********************/smile/emthdown.gif http://********************/smile/embeer.gif

What makes you think that they noticed they made a mistake?

Re: Which XC90 package is a MUST? (GrecianVolvo)

Well, below are my reasonings as an ordinary customer.

1. VNCA didn't make the Dolby II audio system available for 2.5T customers. The 2.5T customers were excluded. Why? Are they 2nd class buyers?
2. Many customers are getting concerned about the 4 speed tranny and its gas mileage of T6 , which turns some T6 customers into 2.5T. Then the customers find it impossible to get the Dolby II system with 2.5T.
3. VNCA had chances to make more individual options available for customers, but it didn't do it by selling them in packages - I mentioned this in an earlier forum. Now the VCNA have realized that they didn't think about the possible isses above.

These are just my personal reasonings to your question, Yannis. http://********************/smile/embeer.gif http://********************/smile/embeer.gif http://********************/smile/embeer.gif

p.s. Reminder: I already pre-ordered my XC90 T6 and am still with the order.

The Dolby Prologic II system IS available as a standalone option in the XC90 2.5T. WHat made you think that it is not offered?

Well, that may be a valid concern but the T6 gas mileage is 15/20. Hardly horrible gas mileage for a good size SUV that is twin turbo and has 272bhp...So far, the public is enamored with the T6 and 80% of the units are going to be T6. I think that the mix will change to about 50/50 when the 2.5T becomes more available for test drives and the people notice that the 2.5T is no slouch and it gets 3 to 4mpg better than the T6.

I think that, for a start, they are offering quite a few standalone options: 17" alloys, Dolby Surround Sound, Navigation System, Bi-Xenon lights, Reverse Warning System, Cargo net, etc.

Re: Which XC90 package is a MUST? (GrecianVolvo)

Sorry about the confusion, Yannis. I was talking about the dolby II in 2.5T premium package. I didn't cleary mention that.

About the gas mileage, a member who had a test drive in Chicago said that one of the Volvo staffs in the event told him and others that the real gas mileage for T6 was 12-13 in city and 16-17 (or something like that) in highway. These numbers are from those who really drove T6 around.

I know some buyers who are already concerned about this gas mileage and considering of changing their orders to 2.5T. They also complained about the premium package deal.... I hope that they will improve the mpg with a new tranny soon, which will attract more potential buyers.

BTW, I was told that the reason why the DVD entertainment system was being delayed was the safety reason. The Volvo has not tested - or testing now - the safety with the system equipped inside of XC90. That is one of the reasons why I chose Volvo like many others. Their commitment to safety for occupants in Volvo vehicles: I give this credit to Volvo in Goteburg, not VCNA. I hope that they can stay in the same way without cutting corners in safety under Ford. http://********************/smile/embeer.gif http://********************/smile/embeer.gif

VCNA is a branch of Volvo Cars AB. They [VCNA] just choose which features are going to sell in the North American market. Volvo Cars develops the products (and accessories) and VCNA decides on which products and how they are going to be marketed.

I am amazed that Climate package did not receive any more votes...so, heated seats are not that important for this car?

Re: Which XC90 package is a MUST? (GrecianVolvo)

It's funny, because I totally did NOT want the the cold weather ("climate?") package when I bought my S60. I thought "what wussie needs bun-warmers and silly little wipers up front?" I thought the wipers gave the front end a kind of spunky look, but still...that's a lot of dough for a spunky front end and two bun warmers. That was then.

THIS IS NOW! We've had very cold weather here this past week or so, and that leather gets DARN cold. I've totally made use of my seat heaters every morning! I love the fact that there are two settings, too...the "burn your buns to a crisp" setting, and the "just warm them up" one. I love this feature, and I can't believe I almost didn't get it!!!

If you live in a climate where you get cold weather a few months a year, you may want to consider the climate package. Heated seats are definitely a nice feature!

I would definitely consider them if I was back up in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, where I used to live. But in the Florida sun and humidity, I would actually like bun-coolers. Is there such a thing? http://********************/smile/emsmile.gif

Re: Which XC90 package is a MUST? (crikey)

Doesn't (or didn't) Mercedes Benz have a cooled seat option in the mid- to late-90s? Didn't they blow air (or or was it cooled liquid?) through, near, or just under the perforated leather of the seating surface to effectively take the heat away?

I've not seen this myself, but I thought I read about it -- either in a car mag or for something at work, perhaps? It was on one of their higher-end models, if memory serves...not the C-class or anything. Anyone, anyone? I'm curious...

Lisa,

IIRC, all new Benz's except the C-Class now come with fully climate controlled (heated & chilled) seats as an option. SAAB was actually the first car maker (9-5) to introduce seats that had a cooling function. http://********************/smile/emthup.gif

Re: Which XC90 package is a MUST? (Lisa62)

Hey with all this discussion of pricing and packages, one should compare the pricing on comparatively-equipped vehicles. Add it up, and the T6 is just slightly more expensive than the 2.5T. (I'd guess the transmission downgrade in the T6 is covering for most of the engine upgrade cost.)

The T6 isn't necessarily an up-market version as much as a "different" version, more for different tastes or driving habits than budget.
