I use the universal rubber strap oil filter wrench. No use using those socket based wretches, they are weak, lack torque and simply can't quite grip onto a often greasy plastic piece. Remove with Rubber oil strap wrench, hand tighten as hard as you can. Done.

If you need a wrench to remove your oil filter cover then you are way too tight.

Correct torque for the oil filter cover should be such that you (unless you are a complete wimp) can remove it by hand, using steady pressure. Make sure your gasket/ o-ring is wetted with oil before the install so it doesn't bind, stick, or kink.

I've been doing oil filters this way since the '60's. never had a leak.
I agree! All these fancy oil filter wrenches, that add to all the costs of tools etc. The oil gasket o-ring does most of the sealing, and those who haven't noticed, the oil filter cartridge has a lot of thread, so it takes about 20 turns to put all the way in, and this adds to the preventative leak measure. I try to use my hand to remove it, and unless you can't grip it with your hand (oil or whatever reason), I use my rubber strap tool.
