That's a weird one, I know, but is there a way to find out what model year a certain car is? Some look at the little number on each glass surface, others subtract a decade from the date mentioned for airbag check, and god knows what else... I am not sure if my R is a 2003 or 2004... Or if the R model was even introduced before 2004. I also saw somewhere that the mirrors were different before MY04m from the current styling. Any ideas please?

03s are MY04, they were just sold in 2003. My wagon is an 05 model but was built in 08/04. You have an early build.

So what you are saying is that the R has only seen three model years; namely 2004, 2005 and 2006. So if mine doesn't have the sliding center console or the HU850 sound system (both of which were available from 2005 onwards) it is definitely a 2004, right?

Why would someone make their car look older anyway? It's a 2004 and that's settled. It's not a 2003. When did they have the older mirrors though, the ones that are connected to the side of the car, instead of sitting on the little base (if you know what I mean)?

Or if your R has the black body side moldings (though they may be painted) or doesn't have the chrome surrounding the radio or if it has the shift gate pattern on the console just left of the gearshift ......it's a 2004.

shift gate pattern on the left... check!
If it looks like an 04, it smells like an 04, it tastes like an 04, then I guess it is an 04! Case settled and closed

btw, what's the diff in the tail lights between model years?

The 05's have a more "jewel like" lens.
