Looking to get into a Volvo as my next car, with that said what do forum people think would be the most FUN car to use as a Daily driver. The S60R or the new C70 convertible. In simple terms if you were going on a 2 week vacation with no kids which car would you pick. I'm hearing the R is a great performance car but not really a sports car, meaning not a real fun car to drive, the C70 would offer more of a sports car appeal. I am very interested in hearing opinions. What I'm hearing is R is great for performance, but not a Kick to drive, while just driving the C70 makes you feel like your on vacation 365 days a year. Thanks for a great forum . PS both cars seems to be very close in price. ..

The R is MUCH more fun to drive.
The C70 is just a nice car, nothing extra special in the driving dept.

interesting, for conversation sake, just say the Porsche Boxster is about a 9 out of 10 as a fun car to drive. From 1 to 10 where do forums members place the S60 R

I would say a Boxster or a Cayman is closer to a 9.8 (stock to stock)
If that's your baseline I would give the R a 6-7.5 TOPS
A C70 about a 5-6, a 4 in automatic equipped form.
Car needs 30-40 hp to be "fun," way too slow now.
Remember it's a lot heavier (heavier than an R) than it looks

We agree, I think you are right on the money with rating the R at 6 to 7.5 at best. After closly looking at spec's the C-70 its alittle bit under powered. I understand why Volvo did this, it would appear they wanted a convertible that would appeal to most people, but falls short as performance goes. My take is the R is probably the best bang for the buck. Thanks for the input..

well i'll play the other side of the coin...
the R would be much more "fun" to drive in terms of performance and a sporty feel. But come on, the new C70 would be FUN. You get to cruise town in a convertible with the coolest hardtop, an amazing sounds system and a proven interior. Now that's just showing off. It may not make my heart race, but i'll sure have a huge smile on my face.

THANKS, R is a fine performance car, but it sure is aliitle dated in its current fashion. The C70 is new and seems to be the HEAD TURNER of the two...

I am SURE that a sonic blue R in 2006 is still a head turner!

ehhhh.... a sonic blue R would be a head turner for people who appreciate them. And sad to say, it's not a huge demographic. Don't get me wrong, I'm a car guy, but unless going to a track is part of my plans, i'm going with the C70.

Re: (Dygitalpmp)

Wow, it appears the C70 might be the vehicle of choice. The stock summer tires along with being a somewhat of a dated vehicle is hurting the R. Here in New England most folks don't want the trouble of changing tires. They want a year round driver with no hassels. Don't get me wrong, the R seems to be a great performance vehicle but almost all agree IT IS DATED. I think the new C70 appeals to more people. O-Well, Something new always attracts attention. Can't wait to see the new S80, V8 with AWD. By the way R's are being discounted big time in Connecticut. In todays paper a dealer was listing a new 2006 at 45'000.00 for 37,000.00.

Re: Which car is more fun to drive/ (jack9139)

If this is a only car take the V70R all around more practicle, if it's a second or third car then either R or C70 would be good choices.
Living in New England the C70 would be awesome for 8mo of the year, spring summer and especially the beautiful fall's would make any drive in a convertible priceless through gorgeous country, then again those same 2 lane winding country roads could be fun in an R if you careless about the views? The AWD of the R would help with winter tires in the snow but the C70 shouldn't be a slouch either.
You have a problem, to add to it consider Overseas Delivery? Good price, free trip and in a C70 great country's and priceless views or in an R a trip to the Ring for a few laps and top speed runs down the autobahn.
I thought of a V70R then made the mistake and drove a C70, I need more versitility though and also something that can tow so now I'm looking at a XC90 3.2 for OSD next spring
Good luck with deciding

Re: Which car is more fun to drive/ (jack9139)

The S 60 R is the most powerful volvo ever built. It's also the most fun volvo to drive. Hold on to your shirt when you hit the gas. The new C70 is more refined, more supple ride. All around good car for sport, and comfort. But you have to ask you're self, what's fun to you; putting the car through it's paces, or putting the top down on a sunny day...
